Default Score Abuse

This score business is just asking for trouble and has caused trouble on other sites in the past. In threads below about This its already being made light of. I do not buy or sell on the boards, I only post on the forums if someone does not hear the answer they want to hear (even if true) Then why should the responder be penalized. If you don,t like a response then post it up front like a gentleman and not hide behind a score button. The potential for abuse is awful and the results will be turning the entire board into a personality contest without any flow of information. Think about it, if everytime one responds he has to be careful of his score then what kind flow of information is that going to provide. On top of that some folks will pay attention to what those scores are and not realize its a silly game thereby completely destroying any creditability you may have. The bottom line if thats the case responding becomes a complete waste of time, why bother?

You can call me thin skinned if you want but I only have a finite amount of 'Time' left and don,t want to waste it. I have meet some wonderful people on this board since the start and I treasure the interplay we have had But for now I think I will cut the losses with my two minus points and terminate. Have been lossing far too much bench and field time anyway.

Thanks agine to all of my friends here

John,

Don't cut your losses and terminate, Take a break away if needed but please come back on occasion to add your talents and experience.

The score thing is Bogus at this point, I stated earlier that same thought you have. If members or New members see a rating in the negative they may well associate that member as non-valued. Scoring a thread is one thing, but to score someone neg. because they write more than 1 line is petty.

You said you read the posts below and does that include Plane Insane's reply?
everytime I see a Score thread I stop and look, mainly because I am one of those guy's thats overlooked and ignored all the time. I'm use to it now and I'm still here trying to share the many years of the RC hobby, to any who will listen.

I give You 2 points on this one, because of your prior help all along

i doubt that the users here are going to change their ways and start hiding behind the score button. right now it's pretty much just a new toy to play around with and have some laughs, bet they drop it soon.

John,
I see your -2 has risen to 10. (I added +2 all by myself!)

Don't take it seriously. It is likely that some will base their opinion of a response on the individual's "score", and hopefully Marc will see that and get rid of this ridiculous "scoring", but you my friend, are more likely to wind up among the top ranked, so take heart.[sm=biggrin.gif]

The scoring system is just a toy. It's really meaningless. Really.

I bet they won't drop it. It's meaningless after all...

Forgive my ignorance about the scoring thing....but where did this come from? Is this something that is part of a software package or is this something that the site developers / owners designed on their own? I honestly have no idea about it's origin so if anyone really knows about this...how about sharing with the rest of us.

In a way...it reminds me of grade school. Remember when your teacher would put a gold / silver star on your spelling paper? I recall how proud some kids acted when the teacher would make an announcement about Johnny or Susie's paper having a gold star on it and wouldn't it be nice if all of the rest of the students could earn one? I'm still a little dismayed about that experience.

Now...where's my gold star?

I think the score thing sux. Yesterday mine was positive, today it is negative. You have no way of knowing who is scoring you or why. If someone is pissed at you, they can go to everything you post and give it a neg, which is my guess as to what is happening. If you are going to have it, link it with an explanation and who is doing it and make it so one guy can't just bounce around and give you negatives all day. If I tick a guy off, he can go to every post and give it a negative.

What good is it?

None!

Well, if you have a negative score, at least you can say that somebody is reading and cares about your posts (even if they don't like what they say too much)...

The scoring thing does serve a purpose.

It needlessly takes up that valuable computer space...you know the stuff the classified fees pays for!

This score thing can't do any good, my thoughts are that the people here already know who is good and who there friends are, so why do we have to rank them. Its like a popularity vote it seems.[8D]

P.S. Good work on the site, I know how tedious that can be (our site came out the same day your new site came out Mark hehe! we will celebrate anniversaries together)

Hey! check it out. I got a score of -2. No clue from who, or what thread!

Everyone else should help show how useless this feature is by rating MY profile. I don't care if it's good or bad, just make the point!!!!!!!

OK, petite question. How does one score a post? Am I blind or does this only pertain to certain catagories of posts. Post Toastees perhaps?
