VT 80
Hi,
About to pull the trigger on the VT 80, was wondering about the following 1) Diesel Operation, is anyone running this engine on diesel? 2) Noise level - Is this a really noisy engine, my installation is in an open configuration, will it be noisier than the other engines out there? 3) Plan to mount it in a Shulman Turbinator. Good Choice? Adequate Power etc? Thanks in Advance for inputs in the matter of the above. Cheers Ravi |
RE: VT 80
Mine is mounted in a PST Reaction, and I swear for this engine.
Takes approx. 40-45 secs. to start. Not a noisy engine. I fly it at half throttle most of the time. It doesn't need more except for any procedure. Usually I end with half tank full. I would recommend it to anyone. ENT |
RE: VT 80
I also have a VT80 but have not installed in a plane yet just did a couple of bench test runs, I suggest you postyour question in the main
jet forum where more people will see it. Therewas one person thatposted awhile back that theirs ran fine on diesel. |
RE: VT 80
Hi,
I have my VT-80 in a modified Hotspot. I have 35 flights on it so far and I love this engine. Fast start sequence, good throttle response and good fuel economy. I have run it on both Jet A-1 and diesel and apart from the smell, I can't tell the differance. It is however, a bit picky on the oil. It some times get sticky when run on 2-stroke oil, making the next start fuzzy with manual turning on the compressor needed. A clip from one of the flights last summer: http://youtu.be/6uiPBTQTJgM |
When using 2 stroke oil , what brand and was it all synthetic. More detail on the oil helps....many thanks

Was my first introduction to turbine , very simple to use , not noisy, good acceleration, very good support from Jet Munt , very efficient turbine , was in a Tam jet F16 now in a Mirage 2000 .
I only use Kerosene and Aeroshell 550 for oil. |
