7 cell ib3600 reading 6 cells?????
ok I think I burned up a cell in my pack-actually two packs, don't ask very dumb mistake on my part-I disassembled both battery packs and checked each cell with a digital volt meter-all of them showed voltage-so what gives? most of the cells read around 1.268 volts acouple about 1.275, 2 cells went 1.285 and 2 went 1.258-which ones are bad???? Oh yeah the packs were Intellect 3600 7 cell shotgun style, thanks for the help

They all sound ok, Are you asking about the charger thinking it is a 6 cell pack? If so , don't be concerned it will either know the correct setting once it starts or you can input the correct number of cells manually.
If you suspect a bad cell and can check it during a discharge then it will show up as low/no voltage.
Maybe I'm still not clear on the question. []

Thanks for the reply, so if all the cells are reading a voltage-then none of them have been damaged?-and yes I was originally wondering why the charger was reading 6 cells with a 7 cell pack?-

It was probably a dead battery and it just read it as a 6 cell. When you push start it will recognize it as a 7 cell.
Just because they are all reading voltage desn't nessecarily mean there isn't a weak cell. You would have to measure each cell during the discharge to see for sure. A real good indication when chargeing or using the battery of a weak cell is that it will be quite hotter than the rest of the cells.
The pack just won't have the power it used to.

Also, the packs voltage was probably pretty low compared to what it's rated at. So with the voltage it was showing, it could've been a fully charged 6 cell, or a discharged 7 cell. Once you hit the start button it will correct itself.

thanks to both of you guys for the info, one more thing-do I NEED a cell balancer to charge lipos with my 977-and will it charge A123 racings cells? Thanks again for all the info and help

It's a good idea to invest in a balancer if you're going to charge LiPos. For one, they are expensive batteries. And two, they are volatile if not charged properly. So for those two reasons I would invest in one. How much is your peace of mind worth? You only have to buy it once, so definitely get one if you're planning on usng LiPos. The 977 doesn't have the circuitry to charge A123s. I'm going to be research on the A123 and charging them on the 989. I'll post when I have results.
