RE: Lipo balancer for 989?
Balancers are pretty much universal if they are for the correct lipo number of cells. It's the connectors that can get confusing. I would match brands with your particular battery brand since the input of the balancer is just 2 wires + and -
The input can be inserted or adapted to the green connector to get the polarity correct.

lba-6 and lba-10 and equinox and blinky team checkpoint seems popular. There's too numerous to list.
It may help to narrow them down if you decide how many cells you will do. The max cell count will narrow the field perhaps.

I've used the Equinox and the Hyperion LBA-6, both with very good luck. I've also heard of people using the Blinky with no problem, so any of these would probably work well for you.

how do you guys hook up the Equinox with banana clips to the 989 brain charger? do you buy the green connectors and solder it on instead of the banana plugs?

While it is popular, the Equinox is probably the worst balancer to buy since it cuts off when any cell reaches 4.2v leaving all the other cells not fully charged.
The best one for the price and job at hand is the Blinky.

RE: Lipo balancer for 989?
This may be a stupid question, but is there a difference between the Checkpoint Balancer and the Equinox? Besides the fact that the Equinox will do up to 5 cells I mean. The reason why I ask is because I have an Equinox I used for my helicopters and Im wondering if I can buy the adapter from checkpoint and use it on my Checkpoint 5400's. Thanks to anyone who can help me on this...

Not too sure on this one. They are basically the same balancer, but as you said, the checkpoint does less cells. You would be better off contacting Great Planes (Tower Hobbies) tech department. They should be able to tell you if you can use the same cord or not.

I've also noticed that the Equinox requires a drifferenct lead when your charging at more then 3 amps. I did just order the Checkpoing balancer, so if I find anything, ill post it on here incase anyone else was wondering...

Hey Guys, Just got the Checkpoint Balancer in and it apears to be exactly the same with the acception that the Equinox will balance more cells. You can modify the adapter on the Equinox with 4mm and a 2mm zero loss connectors and it will work just fine...
