Default My new Mikrokopter

For those of you that love the DF but want to try the German quadrocopters, I can tell you that those queadros are really stable, way easier to fly than any quadrocopter I've ever tried and have lots of power. In my case I've been flying my DF for almost 2 years and I have really enjoyed it. The only thing I really did not like about it was the lack power that would not allow me to lift a descent camera. Now I just finished building and flew my Mikrokopter and I can tell that regarding aerial video this is the way to go. This machine can easily lift a 1 or 2 pounds camera which I think should be a very good camera. Here is my first Outdoors Video, I hope you enjoy it.

Nice,very nice..
I assume you assembled the controllers and mainboard yourself? Respect.
So any data on flight time with these motors/batteries?

Looks like a winner. How does the GPS module work? Any video of it holding in place?

Nicoleto;

This looks interesting, as I live in Europe, I have been looking at x-ufo etc for a while now, but was never convinced of their power for lifting weight. You say that it can lift 1 - 2 lbs? Do you have experience of this or any video showing it lifting?

Also, can you gvie me a rough idea of total cost for your setup and where you managed to obtain all the parts, is it from one site or various places?

Ooops, just read you other post, sorry!

And had a look at the site, looks like I may soon have a Draganfly set up for sale in Europe if anybody interested!?

Depends how the brushless conversion goes...................

Nice job on the nav lites. I like it best when the red and green are on and the sides strobe.

Machining your own frame was it alot cheaper that purchasing it online?

I liked the lights alot too. They showed up really well against the clouds. Were the lights in a kit or did you have to do all of the wiring and soldering?

Hi Fire Fly, it wasn’t only cheaper than purchasing it online but most important I got it at the time I wanted it. I tried to buy the German frame, which is about US $520 plus S&H, but I got tired of waiting for these to be in stock and that is why I built mine.

Hi Sky High, I did have to do all the wiring and soldering. There is not much soldering to do and the manual explains everything you need to know about the wiring. This is as easy as to change the DF motors. The NAV light controller is PC configurable via serial port. You can also change beetween 6 different patterns using one of the Rx channels.

Here is the link to the NAV light controller.

Here you can buy the luxeon LEDs.

Nicoleto,
I'd be interested in buying one of your frames. Have you seen this site before:
[link=http://www.dragonplate.com/default.asp]http://www.dragonplate.com/default.asp[/link]

They can take your CAD drawings and make everything out of carbon fiber. Maybe it'll be more cost effective?

Hi Nicoletto,

interesting to reed your plan to offer my Frame-Design.
You know - there is a copyright on this Frame?

(i am the Designer of this Frames -Hammerframes and the complete Q4 Series)

Everybody can built one Frame for privat (Asking before - would be nice)
but offer "this" framedesign - ist not aloud! because it is a duplicate/clone from my original Frame.

I think you can make your "own design" and sell your "own designed" frames.

Thanks a lot and Greetings
Hammer

You’re right Hammer, My apologies. The frame will not be offered publicly anymore. I do not want to start a business with your frames. As you know the material and laser cut service are very expensive so I just wanted to gather a group of 10 people in order to reduce the price.

Once again, my apologies

Best Regards
Nick

Thanks Hammer. The intent was not to start a new business but to have access to a frame on this side of the world. From our perspective, it's difficult to get a frame that can fit the UAVP hardware from the America's. The long delivery times and the feedback from other posts on ordering frames from Lipoly has scared me away. I'm also stuck because in the event I have a bad crash and break an arm of the frame, I'd be back on a long waiting list to get a replacement frame.

Oh well, even though I'm more of an electrical guy versus mechanical, I might give a go in designing a frame or at least some protection for my naked X-UFO/X-3D with the carbon fiber website I found.

Hi, Nicoleto
How difficult is the building of the MikroKopter, which board did you start with and then which components did you then have to solder?
Do you speak German as the insructions in English seem difficult to follow? I cannot find the part in the shop detailing the GPS module.
