Awesome Tricopter Kit, Totally Worth it

This is the first tricopter I've built, and I have to admit that it outperforms any of my quadcopters. This thing really rocks, and because of the tilting rear prop, it performs more like a heli. It was a breeze to setup, for the exception that it took me a while to get the tail end working properly. It was cheap too.

What kit is it?

It's a "no brand" kit from China. I'm thinking of buying a few more because it's well made. Only problem is that it's made specifially for the kk5.5 board (mounts with a corner facing forward) and I love the kk2.0s (mounts with one flat side forward) You have to drill two front mounts for the kk2 board and there isn't enough space for two rear mounts. Still works great, but I wish they would have designed it for either config.

You can get one here:

The kit is complete for the exception of the link for the tail servo. I used a helicopter link that I had in my stash.

Thats really a great price. I am flying an APM2 controlled quad, but want to try a tricopter with the autopilot. Thanks!

Yeah, you can't beat Chinese prices. I built mine cheap enough so that if I didn't like it no big deal, but it is my favorite to fly. I have neglected my helos after building this one. I have more fun with a multirotor because they are so much easier to repair. Repairing a helo takes more parts and time to get it flying again. I think I'm going to get rid of my helos.

Let me know how it goes with the autopilot. I've been wanting to do something similar, but I'm clueless as to what to get.

I started out in helis as well, and no longer have one. They are great, but if you want lots of airtime, multis are the way to go.

You can take a look at my autopilot project at: http://www.skywardrc.com/arducopter-uav-project.html

There are several really nice autopilots on the market. Most are pretty expensive. I wanted full programmable autopilot with a laptop based Mission Planner, so I went with the APM2 from DIY Drones. There is a definate learning curve, it is very complex. I have found that it is worth the effort though and there are a lot of great resources since the technology is all Open Source. I have my FPV quad set up so that it will fly itself if I want it to, very impressive. I have a feeling I will like the tricopter even better.

This is a really nice tricopter kit off of ebay as well. Cheaper too. It also features sping loaded landing legs. Pretty damn nice for $30 and free shipping

Ive got one and am outfitting it with edf's instead of regular rotors.

Another really sweet fiberglass tri setup is one from hobbyking. Ive got this one also....

They come in stock frequently. It has a metal servo block and yaw axis control mechanism at the tail for moving the tail motor.

Yeah, those are really nice. I bought one about a month ago and haven't had time to put it together. It will be a bit on the heavy side due to the fiberglass, but it will for sure be the prettiest tricopter out there. I got green front props that match the paint. The only thing I don't like is the way the canopy snaps in place.
