It is officially not recommended by MVVS, to change the orientation of the exhaust to any other position; after the engine has been run in a certain position.
Experience tells me, however, that it is possible; but you would have to redo the break-in, as described [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_1850473/tm.htm]right here[/link].
It will 'abbreviate' the P+L life somewhat, though; but this set is not very expensive from MVVS.

I too had quite good results in switching after the running in. It all depends how much time the engine has on it, and how it has been treated.
