How far to seperate electronics from ignition?

What is todays rule of thumb for seperating the electronics from the ingition system to reduce the chance of interferance from a running engine?

Barry,

There is no exact 'rule of thumb', but most would say you should keep a distance of 8" between the receiver and the ignition.
Most current ignition systems are isolated better, to reduce R/F interference.

Receivers and servos are also more selective.

What about switches and servos? Should the entire systems be seperated by 8" or just the RX and ignition module? My RX and ignition system switches are located next to each other and the ignition battery is about 6" from the RX. I also have my throttle and choke sevos forward in the fuselage near the switches and about 5" from the ignition. I have not had any interferance running the engine, I got 3- 12 minute flights yesterday with out any ill efects but I was told that my set up was not safe for an ignition system. However, one of the guys engine was at least 10 years old with the original ignition system. I am wondering if his comments and concerns are still warranted today with todays modern ignition systems.

Barry,

The battery will be unaffected by the ignition system and the servos shouldn't be either.

Try seeing if any of your servos 'jitter' when the engine is running.

I dont have any jitters at all, I have checked the system a few times because I was worried about it. I just want to know what the factory recommendation is with this ignition system, 8" from RX and ignition module only or does it include components of both systems? If I understand you correctly you are stating that it is recomended that only the RX and ignition module be placed 8" apart. Is that correct?

One ignition manufacturer (Vlach) states in his flyer:
"Any part connected to the ignition and engine"
I suppose he means "conductive part"
"as far as possible (20-30cm) from the radio set and battery"

The 3W manufacturer states about the same.

I'm still confused.

What composes a "radio set" and what battery?

Should the entire two systems be seperated by 8" or not?

the entire systems should be separated at least 20cm.

FYI, One " is 2.54cm
