Prop Drill Jig for Evolution 58GX

Hi again,

I am looking for a prop drill guide for the Evolution 58 GX. Any ideas where I can lay my hands on one?

MVVS just started producing these. Call Horizon.

Thanks for your answer, Pe. I appreciate your time. BTW, if they have only just started making them what have people been using all this while?

The prop washer is an excellent substitute.

My MVVS drill jigs just arrived. The set contains:
a lower anvil with drill runout gutter,
Two screws to accomodate different prop thicknesses
an upper knurled jig part, steel, hardened, the business endwith 10mm centering dog.
Two drill bits to jig size. 3.9 and 4.9mm
Two drill bits to ream the drilled holes. 4.1 and 5.1mm

MVVS uses three Diameter Pitch (DP) sizes:
DP26mm, M5 bolts
DP29mm, M4 bolts
DP35mm, M5 bolts

Hi All,

Have read most of the threads re carb tuning and installation issues of MVVS 58. Is richer running in flight when engine cowl fitted likely to be due to carb ref line pressure sensing issues? Has anyone tried a static port arrangement as per instrument sensing on light a/c?

Regards

just for the record, this is a thread hijack, and a general issue for all our gas engines, not just MVVS.

The answer is Yes!
A general port reference is possible, and will solve about 80% of the problems. The other 20% are very much dependent on cowl flow properties that a reference port cannot, and will not address. In these cases a venturi port reference may be the solution. See the thread "another GF45i problem"

Received the prop jig when I got back from my skiing vacation, what a lovely piece of kit it is, I am very inpresed with it and your service as usual.

Thanks a lot

Thanks. MVVS made a real effort to make a complete tool.
Your legs still in one piece I hope?

Legs are fine, can't say the same for the muscle groups though.

On the drill jig, the use and supply of an undersised drill to make the hole in the prop and then using the also supplied clearance drill to ream out the hole is a nice touch, and ensures the correct sized hole perfectly vertical within the prop hub. The only thing they could have supplied to help even further is a short bolt or stud to put into the first drilled hole to ensure nothing moves when you drill the subcequent holes, easily got over with a short piece of piano wire though. Still a very impresive piece of kit, very pleased with it. I think I will buy some new props just so I can use it more.

The knurl on the pressure piece provides enough grip to tighten it well. I drilled several props already without any slippage.
I agree: Dropping in a short bolt in the first drilled hole would provide extra security.

I agree the knurled dege does give a good grip, it may be of interest to others if you could list the engines that this drilling jig is ccompatable with, the thread heading only lists the 58 but it also fits my 45, I am sure there are other engines out there that you may know of.

Diameter Pitches are 26, 29 and 36mm which should fit all MVVS engines now, and in the near future.
DP 26 and 29 fit 3W, and probably DA as well, though drill bit size may be different
