what happens when you use it as plug-and play ignition without any programming?

What is the voltage on the label?
I have had this happen on a MVVS ignition. We sent it back for checkups, and the ignition was AOK, so it may well be some small thing we overlook.
Read the manual, and follow instructions by the letter.
The S- |And L-ignitions need 2 LiPo or 6 Nicad (6.5V at least!)
The P - ignitions need 9.5 Volts to operate (3s lipo or 8 Nicad)

It is the l ignition with a two cell lipo, i have also tried a five cell nimh. I have followed the instrution to the t with no joy

I do not know the "I" igniltion. That must be a Horizon-Evolution thing. please contact them for support.
Anyway, If it is the black potted ignition, you should use at least 6 cells, or two Lipo. Check your switch, check your cable harness.
The normalMSR ICU ignition goes into sleep mode after about 60 seconds non-activity. (it needs to see BOTH magnets in the correct sequence to prevent this)

Hello Pe,

It is a ICU-L ignition. My MVVS26 with the ICU-L works fine and is running set to a tuned pipe(long). When I ran it on the bench, it was set for a pitts muffler(short). I also have a ICU-L for my Evolution 58, I can't change the timing..
Also I have the Evoluiton 26 and the ignition is identical to the MVVS and the timing can be changed.
The ignition on the left is the MVVS, the one on the rignt is the Evolution

the ICU-L ignition V2.0 has two battery test modes. In either mode The ignition switches off when the prop is turned the wrong way. Programming switches between long and short silencer mode and vice versa. This ignition can switch between short muffler (side, pitts) and long muffler (canister, tuned pipe)
Mode 1: With the jumper on (closes) the rightmost pins, battery test is enabled,
Mode 2: With the jumper off (open) battery test is disabled.

re-programming sequence: (switch silencer type)
power on ignition, and let ignition enter sleep mode.
now unplug jumper (mode 1) or plug in jumper (mode 2)
wait about three seconds, until the led flashing changes to a one second rithm. Short led on is short silencer (shorter on than off), long led on is long silencer.
Power off ignition
With power off, reset the jumper to the desired battery test mode (mode one is closed, mode two is open)

edit: To make sure you get the switching system:
If now the ignition is in the wrong muffler type, repeat the sequence, and it will swith to the other type muffler.

I hope this helps.

Hi Alan,
I finally had to replace my ICU-L ignition on my Evolution 58gx2. It would "dead-stick" almost every flight and could not get it to run smooth. The new ignition is working great so far. I should have exchanged it back when you had yours replaced. How is your Evolution 58 running? I have not seen any posts from you in awhile.

George

Hey Alan,
Horizon finally replaced my ICU-L ignition. The original caused "dead-stick" and rough running problems. It looks like that if your can't change the timing, it is defective. I almost lost a $700 plane because of the ignition. It is running a lot better and no "dead-sticks". It should run even better when broken-in. Are you still flying your Evolution 58 and how is it doing? Here is a short video with new ignition:
