flew my zlin a few times 1st time with the rates down low hd to turn them up as it flew like a trainer.
have had a problem with rudder giving a fluter.
been playing around with the pitts muffler , changing pipe out let diameters. to change back pressures.
lastflight had big problems with interfirance , found throtel push rod rubbing on muffler.suspect that has been my problem.
will try this weekend , weather souldbe good.
has every body has good reports.

Zlin test flight a few days ago and here are the results.

Had to add 8 ounces of nose weight to get it to balance, was built exactly per instructions. Plane is a bit unstable on take off and landing. It seems to want to snap at lower speed which was expected. 1st landing was without problem, 2nd landing the main gear broke loose from the fuse. Not a hard landing at all and was on a grass runway. IMHO this isn't a high quality ARF kit and while the plane looks great, it was much more time consuming to assemble than most others. Many areas of the kit needed reinforcing for strength and that was done which contributed to the extra assembly time.

Overall in the air the plane flew fine. Rolls, loops etc were all good, just remember that takeoffs and landing can be a bit scary if you aren't properly prepared for it. For an experienced pilot really no problem to fly it, but someone who hasn't flown this style of plane likely would have some difficulty with it. I've never really enjoyed flying a plane that I can't be comfortable with, and this turned out to be one of those. I simply couldn't relax and enjoy the flight as I usually do, so just not a thrilling experience for me.

I will say that this was the first Nitro Model kit I have had any dealings with and unfortunately, I was not very impressed with the quality. I simply think there are kits available elsewhere that are a higher quality and better value.

As soon as the rain lets up I'm going to maiden my Z50. I used a EFlite Power 60, 6 cell lipos, 16x10 APC and a nicad for the servos. I came out right on the Cg of 80mm but I just changed to bigger wheels up front so hopefully a bit more nose heavy as I think the Cg is a bit to aft as it is. The throws listed are a joke! No way should you need that much Elevator unless you are doing full out 3D flying! Anybody find some nice throws and rates for this plane? Also I drill hole in the struts and run a rod across, that way they don't bow out and break. Also better ground handling. I was hoping this could do some 3D but not sure now that I read the posts!

Welcome, I'd say WAY too much power for this CMP, and will also make it way too nose heavy........then again, it does need nose weight......

Finally got mine to the field today. I wasn't sure I'd even like this plane especially with some of it's reported bad characteristics. Ihave a Rossi 45 with a pitts hanging on it. Our field expert flew it and trimmed it up.He loved it and thought it flew awsome.Easy to take off and land,After 3 short test flights with some throw adjustments it was my turn. I refueled and startad the engine. It shut down several times going to high throttle. Thinking it was the glow,I changed it. Finally got it to stay running. Touched the needle valve and it died. Looks like I have a loose valve or something. Short story long, I never did get to fly it myself. Will update when I finally get it in the air.

I tried and never could get a wing set. I was told they were out and would ship me one when they came in. That was about six months ago. Good Luck.

I know it's been awhile since this post was active but I'm wondering how you guys like your Zlin z-50 planes.
Would you still buy one. Or would you recomend somthing else like it?

Thanks

I miss my Zlin. I did not like the kit. See my post above. I did like the yellow and black because it was easy to see and I liked the looks. I got numerous compliments on how the aircraft looked in the air. I thought it was easy to fly and ground handling was great after I modified the landing gear. I crashed it after my berg 7 decided to go to sleep on me. It is different with the T-tail. I would recommend it for the sport flyer who likes to build and wants something different.

Nope...gave the fuse and broken wing to a person who could use it.

I had one and loves it. Battery in my TX went south and so did my Zlin. I have another on the way finally.
I will put together all of the things I learned on the first build (Crappy landing gear, poor hardware and needed gusseting)
to use this time. I like the way she looks in the air and what the heck, it's a cheap airframe. Cant Wait!!

<pre>So I got the Zlin-Z50 today and couldn’t wait
to see what she might look like. Had to trim
the canopy and it still needs more trimming
and the wing had some damage but nothing
that would stop me from putting her together..........
