I have been reading this forum and it is very helpful. I have the su-26 from nitroplanes and still havn't quite finished it yet. I have been having trouble keeping the hinges glued in, finally got some gorilla glue and that seems to be holding. I have a converted chainsaw engine mounted to the front of mine, the scary part is I do not know what size the motor is, seems to run good though, but it is a heavy motor weighing in at 7 pounds. I am hoping the extra weight of this motor will take care of the tail heavy problem I have been reading about. I was told the motor was somewhere between 65 and 80cc but I am unsure. I do not see any markings on this motor so I don't know anything about it. I know I am taking a big chance.
Wow! 7lbs! you might as well throw a 100cc engine up there they weigh less with more power!

Well from the look of the size it very well may be a 100cc, I have no clue, time will tell if this pig will fly. I don't have too much more to do. This plane has been sitting in my garage for about 9 months and i got tired of looking at it so I have thrown all the guts that was laying around and stuck it in this plane. I don't have a lot in the plane money wise so if it flies that is great, but if she goes down I won't be too heart broken. Don't get me wrong, I'm not in the habit of not caring if a plane crashes, but just got tired of it collecting dust and this will also give me an idea of the power this motor has. My father bought this on ebay from a younger man selling stuff from his late father's estate and he did not know what size it was, just knew it was big and heavy.

Does anyone know by the pictures what type of converted motor this might be? The only markings are on the muffler and it is stamped B&B

Do'nt know what the engine is but it looks like it is in the 80cc range. I have the same plane so I know how big the cowl is. Just my 2 cents worth. Have you bench run the engine and if so checked the RPM on that prop. The 22-8 prop is for a 50cc engine and you would turn real high RPM if that engine is an 80cc. TJ may have a greater knowledge of these larger engines also BOB Pastrollia. I hope I spelled his name right. He started this thread. I'll be back to see.

No I have not checked the rpm's, I still need to buy one of the meters. I was worried about the prop size when I put it on since not knowing the cc's

The B&B on the muffler means its a Bennett built muffler at B & B specialties. http://bennettbuilt.com/smoke.htm scroll down to the mufflers and check through the engines they have listed an maybe you will stumble across the one you have.[8D]

With 4 flights in for the season, I have to ground this plane. Getting ready to fly the other day, I found the firewall is flexing and twisting. I was going to replace it this winter, but now I will have to do it before it flys again. I am going to extend the sides out 1 3/4 inchs. to remove 2" stand offs. I will still have 2" stand off on the motor. Replace the firewall with 3/8" 7 ply plywood with an 1/8" ply laminated over it. After removing the firewall I have noticed the grain runs the wrong direction.

bihamby.....
This engine is a 4.3 cubic inch German made Solo engine from a backpack sprayer, (approx 71cc). It was converted for model use in the early 80's by the Roush brothers from Ohio. I bought one from them for $300 I believe. It will swing a 24x10 prop at 6100 rpm.

i'm gonna hope they have improved the planes since most of you bought yours...i got mine last month.........so far ive glued the hinges and installed the servo's...5  hs7950th..am in the process of drilling the holes for the control horns....got a dle 55 on the way for power....we'll see how it all shakes out ....anybody know what the weight difference in changing the alum wing and elevator tubes and the landing gear to carbon would be....after reading this whole thread, i'm thinking every pound will help me...

the dle55 is extremely light. be prepared to move everything you can up on top or sides of motor box. I had to add a few lbs to the front ..I used 2 solid brass 1/2" engine standoffs to add my weight. enjoy the plane..I hated mine.

Maybe all the bad reviews it got? LOL... If they fixed the tail heavy problem I don't think it would be a bad plane, especially at the price and size it is.
