Out of curiosity, are the thread sizes the same, and does the gap appear to be the same on both?
If so are they merely plugs from two different manufacturers?

No they are totally different, one is so small the sides of the electronic ignition caps wont touch the plug, the other is so large the cap wont snap on.

It sounds like someone mixed up the plugs and at least one of those sounds like it is for the twin cylinder engine.
Your engine should use the CM-6 plug.
Is the larger one labeled like this?

Yeah, wrong plugs all around.

You may also be able to pick up the CM-6 at a local hardware store that sells gas weed wackers.
