Default Hand Launch 64mm questions

My club has a grass field and I am not sure the 64mm F5 or F15 can take off from our field. I hand launch my small electrics and I really like your 64mm F5 and F15. Do these jets have enough thrust to be hand launched? Also is the RTF system radio of good quality. I can get a reciever for my Hitec eclipse 7 radio if you think it best?

If in doubt a bungee launch is a good option.

We have a number of flyers who hand launch these planes with the gear removed, but they normally need a good running start.

I've never done it though.

I don't think I can setup a bungee system on my club runway. It would be in the way when others are trying to take off or land. I am thinking about spending the little extra money an going for one of the 70mm fan jets. they seem a little larger and i think the landing gear will hold up better on a grass runway.

Re: Bungee

You do not ( and should not ) have to set up a bungee on a runway.

I park my bungee launcher pointed both away from the runway, and fairly removed from my main field, pointed towards an open area.

Once the plane is in the air, you can bring it back around into your flying pattern.

Re: 70mm

No sorry....

Unless your grass is smooth and cut like a golf green, it will not work.

For grass you need wheels at least 3" in diameter or more and 70mm EDF planes do not have wheels of that size or larger.

Re: Sell one

Nope.

Bungees can be as simple or as complex as you want.

Surgical rubber tubing is used, and some places sell kits that have all of the fittings, etc. fairly inexpensively.

With these you hold the plane in your hands, stretch the turbing back and while holding the plane somewhat low, just let it go.

I built my own launching platform from PVC... there are other threads on Bungee launchers which detail doing this.

The one caveat is that you'll need something to absorb the force of the tubing on the plane.

You cannot simply put a hook on a foamy, as it will rip right out.

Most people resort to fabricating and installing a thin hardwood "keel" with either an integrated hook, or an add-on one.

I've done it both ways, sometimes using picture hanger hooks for the latter.... though the former looks so much nicer.
