Discus 2.6 Mt glider by China Model Productions
Discus 2.6mt by China Model Productions.
Hi guys,
I would like to share my experience and frustration with this product, it could be my mistake or it may be the product that does not fill the characterizes to be a reliable and adequate design to be a good electric glider.
First. I did set up a ducted fan sold by Nitroplanes, produced by CMPRO (guys do not waste your money the way I did with this product). I did set up this ducted fan with a 64mm 5 blades fan and BP motor of 390W. What happen next.. Weight goes to 2.1 kg; the glider never left the floor. (if you reconice this model comes with landing gear and air breaks.
Second. I thought it was not enough power and I change the set up. I build a fire wall and installed an E-flite power 15 brushless outrunner motor 950kv with a Castle Creations speed control Thunder 54. and 13"x6" folding props and 2100hm 25C Battery; again it was not enough for sustentation power.
I fly some electric jets as well as gliders like easy glider, sonic 185 and some other products from Banana Hobby and Nitroplanes. I'm very frustrated with this product from Nitroplanes.
Can you please suggest which can be the problem and how to solved it.
Thank you.

It sounds like you did not configure your power system correctly and are blaming the glider for that, expecting that the plane be somehow modified to correct the problem.
The problem with the power system configuration you select is what needs to be addressed.
What is the AUW of the plane with the E-Flite .15?
If it is the same, I can tell you right away that your configuration is NOT going to provide enough power.
A 13x6" prop is going to draw far more power than what your battery pack can sustain.
You should drop the prop diameter and increase the battery capacity and voltage.
The 10x6 with 14.8v sounds far more tenable.
For a 3-4lb plane you really need at least a .25 equivalent motor and 14.8v packs at a minimum.
Though remember that this is a glider, not a hotliner. Even in the videos on the web site you can see that the amount of power available at launch is somewhat minimal. The power output is designed to keep the plane in flight while maximizing flight time.
If you look at the first hand launch video, I'll bet that guy's configuration doesn't have enough power to rise off the ground.
You can load the GLIDER down trying to give it a lot of power, but IMHO this defeats the design intent.
If you want something that gets to altitude FAST, this is not the right type of plane.

Opjose,
Thanks for your advise, the experience was above my expectation; about the CG. The manual indicated GC 46mm, it is correc or it can be displace up to 55mm to remove some extra weight.
Thanks.
