The motor is a 550 and the esc is a 50amp, the best price is from HobbyKing online, but takes 8 days to get them . http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbycity/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=2098&Product_Name=HXT_42-60_600Kv_43A_Brushless_Outrunner_M(3530) I fly it with this one and it works great, but depending on what you like, there are many for 35 to 40 size motors and I have had no trouble with the 12 or so I have.

That doesn't sound right...

That's about 770watts or on a 39oz plane equal to 303 watts per pound.

RTF Vendors NEVER give you this type of power loading! The plane wouldn't need wings to fly!

Assuming 130 watts per lb, that works out to about 320 watts... and given a 14.8v battery.... you get about 21 AMPS.

Vendors tend not to give you a lot of overhead, so even a 35A ESC should be more than you need.

A 550 sized motor ( unless it is brushed ? ) sounds pretty big too.

The motor given above is better suited to a 5lb+ .40 size plane not a 39oz foamy...

TL , that is about right , I received some PMs from China and they said it was a 535kv , so your close at 600 .
I can tell you being new to epo -eflight , I may never go back for the exact reason your saying opose , the stock performance is great on a 3 blade prop amd stock battery on the P40 , so expect the same of the p47

You're telling me that these planes have that good of a power loading out of the box?

Wow if true... I may have to get a couple!

Well, might not sound right to you, but it is a direct quote from the mfg on the specs, and also under replacement parts for the bird. But you never can tell in their translations sometimes they are wrong.
Not really a issue as the parts are listed as oem replacements, if you are looking to buy them.
