I think that swashing motion is inherent of r/c pusher Deltas. I've also observed this in the larger FlyCat along with my smaller Northstar float plane. It appears that the Northstar does it a little less and I'm wondering if the float tips acting as traps make some difference. Back on the spoilerons, I have both planes set up with "elevon mix @ 20 percent of the elevator deflection on a mix switch so I can resume normal flight. The Bank and Yank cornering is unbelievebly sharp, plus on the Northstar the nose gets up at a 45 degree angle on the landings privided I get it slowed down enough to raise it without it climbing.....;)

Hmmm.
Not sure my DX6i TX is capable of that sort of mixing. I think I have to either have it setup as elevon typewing (with no elevator) or as a normal wing, but cant see how I can program the ailerons to deflect with the elevator.... :( |

If you can program a mix in there just slave the ailerons to the elevator at the proper (+)(-) reaction to the up or down deflection of the elevator. If you can put it on a switch then you can experiment with it. Just make sure the ailerons still work while the mix is activated too.

Just repairing the nose gear mount cause I pancaked her in with a deadstick the other day. Too much wind and not enough altitude. Also another odd thing I found while flying this plane. Forgive me not knowing the name for the manouver but here goes. Id you pull a decent amount of up elevator and a decent amount of aileron at the same time it will kind of roll onto its back and stop in mid air almost. The speed is washed off very quickly and instead of doing a snap roll it will just mush itself to a standstill. Is this because of the planes short coupling? It feels odd on the controls. Unlike any other plane I have flown. :D |

That is interesting....... sounds like you're definitely getting an inverted stall. I havent' seen that yet. I'll give it a try and see if mine does it. On the Northstar the rudder barely even shows up on a maneuver like that. Does it need much elevator pressure when it's flying inverted?

Yup, that describes a typical "Accelerated Stall" that most Delta wing planes are prone to.
The configuration of the FlyCat lends itself to this same idiosyncracy. It's a "don't do it with this plane" manouver. |

The flycat didn't need much elevator at all to hold inverted flight.
I shall avoid that maneuver opjose :D I was tempted to put a rudder on the plane, but I think I will only really miss it on landing in a crosswind etc. Plus with not a lot of room to put a decent sized rudder I dont think it would be very effective either way. I had an SK 50 on mine, but I have since swapped this out for a 46AX. The SK is a torque engine and not really ported to rev hard. Hopefully have another flight on Sunday so looking forward to seeing how it goes. Also is there any risk of this plane entering a flat spin? With no rudder it would be hard to get it into a flat spin, but just curious whether this plane would recover from one? |
