Explorer 60L
hi,
I just buy one of this low wing trainer, and found a problem when I finished mounting the engine an OS 65 LA and cheked the CG it was betwen the specification 82-90 mm. But the problem is when I put in on the ground it never stand on the tricycle it is tail havy that needs a lot of weight on the nose and in consecuence the CG do not match with the specification. Someone know about this problem or this model is tail dragster?? |
RE: Explorer 60L
Same problem with mine that I just finished. It was within CG, but very tail heavy if you try to let it sit on its gear. I removed the gear legs and put a 30 deg. bend to the rear about 1/2" down from the upper point of the leg. This moved the main wheels a little over an inch aft and now it sits on the gear just fine (no falling on its tail.) The problem then is the main gear is now shorter and the planes has a decided nose up attitude. I replaced the main wheels with lite weight 4" wheels which brought it back to a level stance. Looks a little out of proportion with those huge main wheels and smaller nose wheel, but couldn't figure out a better way. I suppose you could try some combo's of even smaller nose wheel and not such large mains to get the same effect.
