Default Vintage FT-300 Question

I just picked up a NIB 300 and as it turned out, it is a very early one. It is very complete with all tools, choke extension, and two different prop washers and locking nuts. Whats interesting is that the serial number is very low, 0102. The seller was the original owner and bought it from Tower in it's first year of sale, 1986. Did OS serial number their engines starting from 0, make this the 102nd engine offered? I bought it to power a Sig 1/3 Spacewalker but this engine is so complete with the white outer box and all plastic bags present and un-opened that the engine might be considered a collector item in its perfectly clean condition. It looks like it has spent the last 24yrs store neatly away in a closet and I'd like to use it, but not if it's becoming more valuable as a collectors item. What do you guys think? This is my first real serious, hi value engine.

Default RE: Vintage FT-300 Question

It's possible that the serial numbers were sequential. We've never really paid any attention to them, and do not track them at all. O.S. might. Since the engine first came out in 1986, there have been quite a few that have gone out, and so few difficulties that tracking by serial number makes no sense.
