Default OS engine suggestion ...

Hello Bax!

I want your help so as to decide for the best engine !

I am putting together a Seagull Percival Mew Gull,

with the following specifications.

* Wingspan - 74ins (1.88m)

* Wing area - 797.2sq.ins (51.4sq.dm)

* Suits - 120 2-Stroke (120-160 4-Stroke)

* Factory covered with Profilm Cream (12)

* Length - 60.1ins (152.7)

* Approx flying weight - 10.1-11.0lb (4.6-5.0kg)

What OS engine should i use?
I prefer two strokes.

I have found some good deals here on RCU market ,
regarding 91FX , a 108FSR .

I prefer to buy a used one because of the lack of money.
I just don't know if the OS 91FX will be enough (sport flying/but what prop ?)

Anyway,
i hope i *read* from you soon,

Konstantinos

At that size and weight, the model will actually fly with anything from a .61 on up. After all, we used to fly 8-10 pound models on a .61 all the time. A .91 FX should be OK, as would a .95 AX or a 1.20 AX. If you go with a .91 FX, then a 13 x 8 prop, or a 14 x 6 prop, or that vicinity. Turn the engine at about 10,500-11,000 RPM and you'll do well.

Bax you mean if i use a 91FX right?

You think that a 91FX will turn a 14x6 APC at 10k RPM ????

We're not sure about hte 14 x 8, but with the 15 x 8 APC, we'll get 8,500 RPM. However, if noise isn't a problem, you can use whatever propeller will allow the engine to turn as high as the high-11,000's and fly your model. You'll get "sparkling" performance running the engine in that regime. O.S. uses large propellers to keep sound as low as possible due to very strict noise standards in Japan.

Considering I have a Ultrathrust muffler on a 91fx and I'm getting 11,500rpm smoky with an APC 14x6 yes I think you will get 10k
