O.S. .46fx
I recently purchased a SIG something extra ARF for my second plane. I plan on using my .46FX. I was wondering what prop I should use? What preformance characteristics differ from an increase in pitch/diameter? I currently have a 10X7 on it for my trainer.
Any thoughts? Also, any comments/suggestions on this plane will be greatly appreciated. :D |

if you run an 11x5 you will have good vertical but less speed, if you run around 11x8, you plane will haul ***. keep it in the 11 inch range.. 10 may be a little short for it.

What happens if I use a prop that is too short like a 10X7 (which i have on the motor now)? I have to use a 10in for my trainer due to ground clearance.

if its too short, you could overheat the motor and then its junk

On the O.S. Max .46 FX, we regularly run APC 10 x 7 props. This won't hurt your engine at all. A lot of people run 10 x 6 props, but that's a tad small, but the engine will still handle it.
Overheating would be caused by too much propeller, a fuel with a too-low oil content, bad cooling, and bad needle adjustment. With good fuel, you should have no problems with a 10 X 7 prop on your model. Just make sure it gets plenty of cooling air and you're using a good fuel. |
