GT60 Backwards Start

My new OS GT60 seems to want to run backwards when hand starting (for a short time). This seems to be a well documented problem with this engine, but I was not aware of it when I purchased it.

Is there a solution? Using an electric starter is not a solution for me, so I'm looking for any help to improve the situation. I noticed that many even put on an aftermarket ignition to solve the issue. I did get it running after many attempts, so I think the needles are at a decent setting.

Any starting technique that will help? I didn't expect this type of problem from an OS.

The instructions do state that the engine can start in reverse when hand-flipping. This may mean the engine is over-choked and a bit wet with fuel. It's something you will have to live with unless you can use an electric starter. We don't know that it's an ignition problem.

It seems that anyone who has installed another ignition no longer has the issue. It's not typical for gas engines to kick over backwards, only OS. It appears that the ignition advance start curve is not optimal for hand starting.

I may have to do some testing to find the right combo to prevent it. The normal starting method: Flip with choke until it pops, then turn off the choke and flip to start, seems to cause it every time. By giving it some flips wide open, ignition off after choking I might find something that will work.
