pegasus Questions
 

Hi guys,
Just purchased a 320 Pegasus and am in awe of this work of art, but I do have a question for you guys. I figure that I am going to have to put a glow igniter on this thing to keep all of the cylinders running. Do you guys run one that is on all of the time or is the harness that came with it to start it enough? Also is there a manufacturer that makes an on board igniter for it? If some one could point me in the right direction on this it would be appreciated.

I am running a Glow2lp for my FF320, made by Microsens in Austria, it works in a perfect way:

It boosts the glow plugs from idle to about 25% throttle with full current, from 25% to 50% throttle it will linearly decreae current to zero, everything above 50% throttle there is no boost function.

Speed...what do you have your Pegasus mounted in? I do not know what size wingspan to mount it in yet.

It´s a 87" Super Star, about 20lbs flying weight.

Great...one question , how does it fly pushing that much weight? Can you actually do some 3D with it or is it on the sluggish side?

The Super Star is perfect for leisure aerobatics, much like the real thing, and I think the engine sounds just awfully cool.
For sure it is to heavy for 3D, and control surfaces aren´t large enough. Engine thrust is about equal to weight, I am running a Menz 20x9 wooden prop.

My 77" Votec 322 with about 15lbs flying weight is powered by a FT-300, it pulls with much more authority. This engine has more power, plane is much lighter, and control surfaces are much larger - this would do 3D well, but the pilot (me :)) is not good enough for real 3D tricks.

The FF320 is a sweet engine, totally reliable, and surprisingly straighforward to operate. It doesn´t always need to be a J3 or a Super Cub for this engine.

You ´ll want to check for a plane of approx. 75" wingspan with long tail momentum and comparable short fuselage front section.

...but it would need to be checked if the engine fits lengthwise under the cowl - cutting holes for the valve covers can be done in any case...

The Votec ARF kit has a nice feature, position of the wing tube attachment to the fuselage can be adjusted about +/- 1,5 inches back or forth, depending engine weight. I guess other kits may have this option, too.

We have a big model expo over here in April called Toledo and I am going to wait until then so I can see and actually talk to some of the manufactures. I will make up my mind and probably buy something then.

I´ve heard of the Toledo show - have fun, and good luck.
Pretty sure folks will try to sell you on a big 2 stroke gasser, but why not being different sometimes?
