OS Max .10 orientation
 

Gentlemen,

I'm building a Carl Goldberg "Gentle Lady" 2-meter motorglider, and have acquired an OS Max .10 to power it. The instructions recommend mounting the engine with the cylinder in a horizontal position to minimize the amount of exhaust materials trying to enter the radio compartment, as the plane has a top mounted removable wing.

I'd appreciate any comments or recommendations on this subject.

We're not sure what you're looking for. Your O.S. Max .10-size engine will run quite well if it's side-mounted. Many, many models have their engines mounted in this manner.

To make things easy, though, we'd suggest running it in on a test fixture in the upright position. That way, you'll be able to become very familiar with how your engine handles.

Mr. Baxter,

I have no (zero, nil, none) experience with your product. I need to know if I rotate the engine 90 degrees (putting the cylinder in a horizontal position) when I mount it on the nose of my aircraft, am I going to have a problem running it? Will it run better if rotated left.....rotated right...does the orientation of the fuel line help or hurt performance? Input, please, you're the expert, I'm the novice!

How many minutes to the ounce of fuel on this engine?

We thought we answered that. Side-mounting an engine, with the cylinder parallel to the ground is fine. The engine will run in practically any orientation.
