HELP! My engine won't run!

Today I tried to start my new OS.46FX-H engine installed in an X-Cell 30 heli. However, as soon as it starts and I advance the throttle a bit, the engine dies. I've tried setting the needle valve at everything from 1.5 to 3 turns open, and nothing helps.
I was wondering if the problem might be the fuel, or rather the oil. I'm using 5% Nitro and 18% Aerosynth oil.
I had the exact same problem with my former engine (same brand and size), until I had to buy the new one because it had rusted (I forgot to put after-run oil in it). However, I did get this engine to run (though it often quit in mid-flight), by running it very lean.
I hope someone can help, as I'm getting pretty frustrated by this!

Thanks

HELP! My engine won't run!

KL,
For starters, how long did you test-stand break in the engine? If you haven't, pull her back out of the bird, mount her to a stand, attach an appropriate prop, and get her properly broken in.

Secondly, what exhaust are you using?

HELP! My engine won't run!

I did not run it in a test-bench at all, as I read somewhere (in the manual?) that the engine must not be run with a propeller. Though if you recommend this, I will try it.

I do not know the brand of the exhaust (probably a no-name). It's a short one with the outlet in the bottom, facing upwards in an angle, which might prevent the oil from exiting it.

Is 18% oil and 5% nitro still enough, or should I buy some other fuel?

Thanks for helping me. :)

HELP! My engine won't run!

Hi, KL! Happy to assist. Yes, please bench break in. It'll likely help a lot.

Given the same problems with two new engines in the same setup, I'd really take a look at the muffler. If the backpressure isn't enough, that'd explain the erratic running. Again see if you can find a way to use the stock exhaust, even if only for a test run on the ground, to rule that possible problem out.

There was no exhaust with the engine when I bought it. Can I instead use one from an OS40 Max I have standing collecting dust?
