Is this normal?
Ok So I took the head off my .61 and the top of the piston is BLACK[X(]. Is this just from the oil or what?

RE: Is this normal?
Depending upon the fuel used and the mixture setting, you can most certainly get carbon buildup on the top of the piston and inside the cylinder head. Fuels containing castor oil will especially show this. Running very rich over time with an all-castor (or ostly castor) fuel will give you quite a buildup. If the carbon is hard, shiny black, then it means your engine's been run a bit on the hot side.

Can it be cleaned off with alcohol?
I was also told the light brown film on top is a sign of good lubrication. Am I correct? |
RE: Is this normal?
You would clean the engine with an SOS pad or "0000" steel wool (also known as "four-ought") and hot, soapy water. Rinse in water as hot as you can stand, shake off, and air dry. Lube and reassemble a soon as possible.
