O.S 240 Pegasus problem
 

I've noticed that on my Pegasus 240 engine cylinder No 3 (front right viewing from the back)
is always running very rich on idle and without the on board glow driver it would not ignite I tried to remove the igniter connector on idle and it died imediatly . I've checked the valves for correct clearance and I've found them to be O.K I also thought that the mixture needle was on the rich side but even leaning it ,it still was running rich. I have to say that the preoblem is until 1/3 throtle after that it's running okay but if I would not be using an on board glow driver that cylinder would stay dead!

I'm sorry ,I accidentaly punched the O.K button.

Back to the issue.
Does anyone have an idea what the problem might be????

By the way the glow plugs have been changed too ,without resaults.

Any multi-cylinder engine that has one carburetor will not give equal distribution of the fuel mixture to the cylinders. One cylinder will always be leaner than the others, and one cylinder will always be richer than the others. The other cylinders will be somewhere in-between. You can only set the engine so that the leanest cylinder is not too lean and let the other ones run where they will. On older engines, where compression may be down a bit, you may have to resort to an on-board glow plug battery to keep the engine running well at idle.

And well... yes it realy is an old engine. I need the manual for it but on the O.S. site they only have the 320 model to download.
I would like to install new pistons ,rings and cylinder liner but I don't have the parts sheet so I don't know what to order.

Hi,

A frequently idle running problem with old O.S muti-cylinders, flat twins and flat-four engines, comes with intake pipes leaking = check and replace the "O" rings in the intake manifold.
