Honing a 46 FX

I accidentaly honed the liner for a 46 FX I'm rebuilding. I was honing the sleeve for a 50 Hyper heli engine to knock off the glaze and put the cross-hatching back in for the new piston and ring to break in on. I picked up the FX sleeve while not even thinking and did the same to it. Think it's okay as it's not a ringed engine? Piston fit's plenty tight towards the to of the liner but I'm worried about the cross-hatching tearing up the side of the piston, there seems to be some sort of teflon coating about the side of the piston to help the seal or something. Thanks Bax!

RE: Honing a 46 FX

An O.S. piston will not have any type of coating. It will just be smoothly-finished metal. If the liner was honed slightly, nothing may happen. Otherwise, you may see premature wear. It's also possible that the honing would have damaged the plating and will cause the liner to have its plating flake off after a while. Just use sufficient lubrication in the fuel and you should be OK.
