i agree... at least for the older Monte's. That body style monte is one of the few GM's i would personally own and not be ashamed to own I still cannot believe gm turned the monte's into a fwd turd [:@]

75 Silverado 1/2 ton. 95% original paint w/new clear coat (this green was only avaliable for one year, very rare), full MSD, dual flows, holly 670, hooker headers and much much more on a crate 383 stroker/original block good for about 450 ponies.
94 Honda CBR 600 F2. brand new race plastics w/custom headlight (not quite done), manual chain tensioner, corbin seat, sprocket set, k&n air filter, aftermarket regulator, aftermarket signals front and rear, SS braided brake lines, smoke windscreen and some more
a work in progress. sold my last ski (1990 JS440) and bought this hull to do a custom freestyle 550 w/ 650 dropped in. should be a blast
16' whaler

If Hennry Ford invented the automobile and put the steering wheel on the left side. Why on earth did the English put it on the other side ?

I dont know Aussiebud - $11,840 for a 225hp rework on a '89 sounds a little like you left some ponies on the table. Thought the stock 5.0 put out more than 225. Should be a menace machine if you get her near 600hp
I racked a lot of miles in '89 behind the wheel of my old mans spanky new statesman. Was a fun ride. Think he has the new Calais now though he probably would not use more than 30hp with the way he drives. He also smuggled a Vette convertable back from the US a few years back (that sees an equal amount of grey haired driving )

Aussiebud, im not sure what year 302 block you have, but the weak point in stock 2 bolt late model 302's is the block's. Been there done that on the 600hp quest (i build 302 based mustangs and other cars with 302's ). If you really want to make a DEPENDABLE 600hp with a stock block 302, i would try searching for a late 60's very early 70's 302 block. These are a bit 'beefier' then the late model blocks, and tend not to split as "easily". If $$ (and of course availability) is not too big of a concern, i would really look into getting a Dart, or FRPP R302 block (1500+hp capable no problem, proven ). Anyway, curious what kind of combo you are looking to put together to make 600hp.
I have a 69 302 block 030 over (306) using a stock late model crank, I-beem rods and some ordinary TRW forged pistons. Set of edelbrock performer heads and RPM intake both worked over a bit, F303 cam, 38lb injectors, Vortech S-trim and a small wet kit, and of course all supporting fuel system and induction mods. The car on 14lbs of boost, 93octane made just a bit over 560hp to the tires through a 5spd. On a unleaded fuel mix that comes out to around 103octane with 15lbs of boost and a 60shot made 632hp to the tires, with the A/F staying in the 10.5-10.7 range (pretty much just scared to lean it out as datalogger showed 102% efficientcy on the injectors).
600hp to the tires (which can be anywhere from 650-700+ at the flywheel) can be "easily accomplished", just gotta have a combo that works well

Karl Benz invented the automobile in Germany and the steering was in the middle.

ok it's a holden block BASED on the 350
the cubic capacity on the "stock" motor is 304ci but with the extra .030" mine is 312
stock they put out about 220hp (165kw) at the motor and it's an auto
also i didn't pay for any of the work done i bought it as is for 6K aud and plan on tipping about 15K into it to get the 600hp mark
justaddwata : the new calais are simply awesome with the corvette motor in em but i can't afford one of them
look out for the G8 when it gets to your shores
thanks for the comments and watch this space
