LOL.......this is an interesting thread.

First, a couple of thoughts:

1st - I have to recognize and appreciate anyone in the services....and thank you for your service. I am very thankful to all of them.

2nd - I am envious of those who are machinists, I guess because I wish I was better in that area than I am. Even thought I have a small metal lathe, multiple welders, and wish for a milling machine one day, I feel like a hack. I would really like to be better at machining.

I work for GM. I know, some will flame me because of the bail-out thing, but I like my job. I am a support person in the Product Design area, and I support CAD users and teach workshops and deal with standards and process development (that is, how we use CAD, organize data, best modeling practice, and how we use the software, beta testing, etc..).

I like working for GM. I like my job, and consider myself lucky to be part of what I feel is a positive turn-around. Regardless of what others think. I have never seen my company so serious about getting the job done. Its kind of refreshing, even though some things are not what I agree with.......

Interesting thread!

Dave

A friend, and I have a mobile and building based shop. And our work ranges from Collision repair, restoration, and frame realignment. To Marine based jobs such as major fiberglass, and Gelcoat repair. For the Marine end we can travell to the job if needed as, some of the larger boats cant be towed. I have been restoring cars off, and on now for well over 17 years now. And have been doing fiberglass & gelcoat repair for 10. It's good money when there is work to be had. When times were slow we would go and, work for someone else till things got better. So, that had me working at car, and boat dealerships across the area. So far we have been back in full time operation since 08, and have work coming in from the various dealerships we have worked for.

I am a Professional liar.
AKA Estimator for a cabinet shop. I price and put bids out for commercial millwork installations. Sometimes I have to work as a project manager for these projects, if I don’t do a good job as a PM, I get to be a cabinetmaker too.

Fascinating thread!  I retired three years ago from one of the loves of my life.  Unfortunately my retirement was hastened by an inattentive driver  who hit my rig while responding to a critical EMS call.  I was a fireman/Paramedic but I still retain my status as a Paramedic.  I've seen it all and have enjoyed most every moment!  As a Paramedic you see and interact with people having the worst day of their lives and it's most satisfying helping those afflicted people.

Regards,

Natan

P.S. The "hanger" is getting full with two new Giant Scale warbirds, a PT-17, a J3 Cub, a Paulistinha Cub, a T6, a Reno Racer of the 50's and four electric Micro Flyers.  Impatiently awaiting Spring!

I'm a full time Husband/Parent/Friend and part time self employed [prioritized in that order].
Get them up dressed and fed,get them to school, get them home, get them fed again [they CONSTANTLY graze all DAY!] and cleaned and get them to bed,,,then it starts all over again the next day [5 days a week,,,well 6 if you count Church] plus spend as much quality time with them as possible [you only get them once].In between I turn wrenches [independently],fix plumbing and buy and sell online to contribute in supporting ourselves. In between that I keep the homestead running/repaired/cleaned,do the laundry, meals [I like to cook],mow/rake the lawn, feed the pets and somewhere in there find time to enjoy my hobbies,,,,ohyeah,,,and keep the Wife happy too.
I should say the Wife greatly contributes too,,,even more since she has a new schedue [24-48hr NREMT-P].
