Default Ok what on earth is this?!

This was in my sink until I killed it. It's gotta be the strangest organism I've ever seen.

Ewwww.

Not sure what they're called, but those things are NASTY.

They seem to dwell in damp, dark areas (IE sink drains, basements that leak, etc)

Its called a house centipede. Apparently these things are pretty much taking over some parts of the united states. I had never seen them up until about last year.

One time I woke up with one on my chest 8D
I got out of bed very quickly.

We used to have a whole lot of them... still find them occasionally.

No its not, I have had silver fish a couple times, and they are completely different. A silver fish is like half an inch long (and silver), house centipedes are like 2-3 inches long.

If it has more than six legs, it's not an insect, so you fear nothing!

There's only one solution.

Set fire to your house. You must kill them ALL.

You first must dig a mote around your house and fill it with gas or deisel. Don't want any to escape, infesting the neighbors when you toss the match.

Have a read of this Sheo:

http://ento.psu.edu/extension/factsh...use-centipedes

If you are seeing a large number of these in your home, it may be an indicator of other, possibly bigger problems.

These centipedes actually feed on silverfish, firebrats, carpet beetle larvae, cockroaches, spiders and other small arthropods....according to the attached article.

it's a centapede alright. some people call them thousand leggers. i remember years back i was a welder in a shipyard. i was welding in the inter -bottom of the ship and the sparks were falling on what appeared to be a nest of these. needless to say in about two minutes they started crawing out all over the place. i got out of that area fast. they are creepy crawly things i hate ,myself...........RON

Yes, but they're mostly harmless and will scatter before you can get close anyway.

I haven't seen any more of them but I'm still haunted. I might get PTSD from this whole mess.
