Hello from Spain!
I am an American doing the ExPat thing in Spain for a couple years. I needed a new hobby for the kid and I since firearms are basically prohibited over here so I went with RC!
I am very much a newbie; my only experience being an RC truck when I was a kid and a pretty basic boat I have not run in a few years.
I just recently ordered a Mad Gear Dersert Wolf Baja 1/10 buggy with a few spares because the reviews seem good and the price is nice.

I will eventually end up upgrading the battery. Any pointers for a car that will be run mainly on dirt/sand/gravel?

Well, I made my first noob mistake before I even go the car. LOL
I did not realize until today that re branding was so rampant. In reading reviews I saw that BSD Racing seems to have a somewhat poor reputation and people thought a lot more of of the Mad Gear.
Turns out that the Desert Wolf is just a re-branded BSD Prime Baja.
At least that makes the spares issue easier for me. LOL
Here is the parts information I found for future reference:
Parts list for [Mad Gear DW](http://www.nitrorcx.com/72cbajaparts.html)
Parts list for [BSD Baja](http://www.hobbex.se/internt/artikla...2WD_BS709T.pdf)

Stay away from Nitrorcx and anything they sell, in my opinion.
Get an HPI, Losi, Associated, or even a Traxxas instead. Personally I prefer the previous 3 but sometimes Traxxas parts are easier to find overseas. You get what you pay for, which isn't a high quality hobby grade buggy for $100, that's for sure.
