I just found out that Don Imus was dropped from the radio for something he said about a basketball team. I feel like I just came out from under rock; this is th first time I heard about it. Apparantly, what he said was so bad that radio stations are dumping him.
Did he cuss out the team on the air? What he said must have been so shocking that even Howard Stern wouldnt have said something like he said, and Howad Stern IS a shock radio personality and he is still on the air! What is even more funny is Don Imus was Howard Stern's radio idol. Afterall, if you listen to the low deep voice Howard Stern speaks in, his voice sounds just like Don Imus! Even to the pauses and inflections!
Whatever Don said, if he wants to keep his air time and sponsorships, why doesnt he simply apologize for whatever he said?

The article I read didnt even mention that! Wow!
But even then, why dont he just apologize? He needs to explain himself. He is losing his job over what he said.

He already has publicly apologized and is scheduled to actually meet with some of the Rutgers women for some sort of mediation session. It doesn't really matter what he does now, his show has been shown on MSNBC in the mornings and now it won't be shown anymore. However, I think he will still be broadcasting on the radio, there just won't be cameras in the studio like there was. Imus seemed pretty sorry for what he said, but apparently justice won't be served until he loses his job. Personally I've watched the show off and on and it's alright, nothing great. Alright back to the hockey game, Dallas and Vancouver are starting the 3rd overtime period.

Yeah, I found and read a dozen or so articles since the night he said that about the Rutgers woemens basketball team. I though he cussed them out and said a tirade of obscenities and racial slurs at first, but it was just that simple sentance that did him in.
As of just now, I just read that Imuwas also dropped by CBS. The article said that CBS is looking to take a big hit; much like what happened to them when Howard Stern went to satellite radio. I guess Imus will do the same; after all, satellite radio is not as strigent in what you say like syndicated broadcasting.
I think the whole affair is excessive, for Jese Jackson and Al Sharpton to demnd his removal and firing. Imus does seem sorry and yes, I read he did apologize; they should be willing to take his apology and be done with it and move on.
This raises the right of free speech. What is sad is that hard core street rap is way worse in demeaning women and saying a whole barrage of racial slurs! Why arent people demanding th ban of such bands? In some countries, hate music of any kind is illegal altogether, be it neo-Nazi music or hard core street rap. Why dont we see similar demands against such hate music? Free speech! And they hide behind that right as if it were a magical shield!
But what Imus said is far from such hate music. Sure, if the networks deem, fine Imus or suspend him for two weeks as originally planned. But fire him? That is utterly excessive.
Free speech is a right, but it is also a responsibility. Yes, Imus should have not said such a thing, but no, he should not be punished as harshly as he is now. If we are going after racially and demeaning comments and remarks so harshly, why do w not take as such harsh actions on those who say worse in public?
We need to focus our attentions on more pressing issues such as the world economy; rising oil prices, the potential extreme competition between the US, China, and India (yes, I truely believe that China and India are the next world superpowers that Westernes will have to compete against; I have nothing against the Chinese and Indians, I just see the USA, China, and India competeing fiercely for economic power and world resources).
