I'd like to start paintball, but I just dunno where to start. Can anyone recommend a good gun and accessories? Is Spyder a good brand? Also, what online sites do you guys buy from?

umm... if you want something to simply play around like once a month, you should go with with a spyder pilot or a smart parts ion(these two gun are electronic). If you want something that is semi-automatic you want a spyder xtra. Of course if these guns are budget guns to start with but if you really think you are up to the task an want to start off with something very good and you will never have to level up just get an invert mini.

Note that the invert mini an the smart parts ion can only run on N02(nitro) not C02. The best website for buying paintball stuff is actionvillage.com

Thanks for the suggestions, quadzilla.

I've been looking at some of the Spyder guns, and I really like the VS3. Is the VS3 a decent gun, and are there any things that need upgrading? What are some of the other best manufacturers around?

What is the difference between N02 and CO2 (Air)? Is there a dramatic difference in peformance? Also, I was wondering where you get your tanks filled?

what kind of guns are the ones where the but of the gun is the tank? also, how long does a tank of CO2 last?

ok this will answer both your questions: The difference between C02 and N02 is tha N02 is a consistent amount of air going inside your gun meaning that you will be shooting each ball at the same speed compared to C02 that gives an amount of air at random here is an example of testing your gun with C02: 297fps(feet per second), 330fps, 270fps,280fps,340fps,etc. NO2 will shoot like this:300fps,300fps,300fps,300fps etc. C02 you get more shots but less consistant and if firing a fast electric can damage your internals.
It depends on what size you tank is to see how many shots you can shoot. On a 12 ounce tank of C02 you will get Approximately 500 shots per fill,on a 20 ounce C02 tank you will get approximetly 1100 shots per fill, and N02 tanks depend on what psi it has.

The vs3 is a decent gun but since it is electroin you will need an electric hopper. Also it only runs on N02. PAINTBALLING IS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN RC CARS TO ME SO GET READY WHEN YOU START.
If you want a vs3 this is what you will need:
tank: http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/...U=031-316-0005
hopper: http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/...4AAAEPUFADgD_8 or http://www.actionvillage.com/is-bin/...kAAAD6IXGgbumx

I hope you have a helmet and paintballs already and you can fill tanks at any paintball supplier neer you for about $5.

i just played yesterday and i am starting to get into it. the spider i have fell apart o well spyders are junk anyway. i had to use my tippmann 98 back-up gun what i think is nicer than my spyder anyways. i think the spyder is going on ebay. it was a lot of fun though.[8D]

spyders are reliable but i know a spyder xtra at least is better than a tippman 98 because ive had both and the tippman 98 is very inacurate and bulky.[sm=52_52.gif][:'(] My gun right now is a dye DM7.

i have a highly upgraded spyder Electra ACS it shots ok but is very inaccurate and very heavy with a halo hopper and a nitro tank. i was shothing it all day and then it died after about a 3/4 of a day of paintball then i used my tippmann that has some hop-ups on it and found it so much better, more accurate, lighter and less chopping of balls. at least for woods ball, how do you like your dm7 i used to have a DM5 but sold it when i got out of paint ball. i keeped these two low end paint ball guns just incase i ever wanted to play agen. i also owned a ion for about 5 days but sold it because i hated it

i used to play tons of tourny ball. played in a few novice tournies. i used to play with a couple different guns. i had an 02 aftershock angel...sick gun with a halo B and angel air. i also had a Timmy (dragon) and i have to admit one of my favorites smartparts impulse. i also really like the new shocker. there were 8 guys on my team. we played alot of 3on3 and 5on5. when we played 3on3 we would have two teams in the tourny. our sponsors loved it when we would both place in the top 3.
