Default Built-in SD card reader

I have a Toshiba Laptop with a built in SD card reader. I've used it with my Bro's 512mb SD card all the time and it works great, and recently my Dad got a Canon XSI camera and he got 2, 4GB SDHC cards and my Laptop won't read them

I did some searching and found the SDHC cards or formatted differently, so I'm wanting to know is there something I can do to get my laptop to read the SDHC cards?

You'd have to download a new driver for your reader...Go to the Toshiba website and go to the device drivers section and see if you can find a SDHC driver for the SD reader.

Some just aren't compatible with the encoding used for high density storage. A driver may be available though.

I found 2 drivers for the SD reader on www.csd.toshiba.com

One more thing (which is off topic to my first question) what does the bluetooth do on my laptop, and what's it for?

bluetooth is a wirelss data transfer, most cell-phones are equipped with it...You can use it to transfer stuff back and forth between your phone and laptop.

It's not very high bandwidth though. So big files will take a very long time.

i could be wrong, but.. arent you supposed to only use one driver at a time? multiple drivers running for the same device usually cause conflict no? i'd say uninstall them all, and only install one (the newest ) version of the driver by itself.

Well each time I install them it says "removing software" then installs it. The newest one I saw was from 06 and it didn't work. I can still read the SD but its still not reading the SDHC.

If the newest one was from '06, then it probably won't read SDHC...Sorry, you're probably going to have to buy a SDHC reader for like $20 from Wal-Mart or Best-Buy...

If that doesn't work, get the multi card readers.

They work great for all the different types of memory cards. So if you get another type of memory card, it'll have no trouble reading those either.

I bought one of those card readers and it read all the cards I have including the SDHC 4gig card I have. Got it on the bay for under 5 bucks at my door.
