AutoXman, while the Miata is good and close in performance to the S (on a track, in a straight line it's not even close), the S does have a special feeling to drive. 50-50 weight distribution is really an unusual feeling when combined with the fact that you are sat EXACTLY in the centre of the car. It really feels like the car moves around you, rather you moving with the car. Hope I got that across ok, it's kinda hard to describe, very confidence inspiring though.

Foxy, what type of LSD is in the stock S2000? Is it clutch pack type? Or viscus type? Or gear type?
I think 2009 is the last year for S2000 in US... !

Yeh, 2009 is the last year. It's a future classic.

People autocross all sorts of cars.. it is a good way to learn car control at a lower speed.. people usually don't total their car at autoX.. (since you'd hit some cones, etc. but usually not the wall, unlike if you are at a race track..)

Cool, so it is a gear type.. won't require much maintenance then.. nice!!
Most of the clutch pack type (probably more adjustable) do wear and require re-pack them w/ the new friction material...
I have no idea how they feel when driving, though.. ha!

RE: THE LOUNGE 3...
So...I started rebuilding the diffs in my E-Savage (wanted to put some shims on the inside). Took apart the front one, cleaned the old grease out (looked like some sort of red colored stuff), replaced with the Sears white automotive grease. Shimmed the inside, checked for binding, and rebuilt.
But then...I got the rear diff out, started to take apart, and...2 of the 4 screws holding the diff together are stripped. Almost completely. I tried like crazy to get them out, but no go. Tried a tiny flathead I had, smaller phillips, bigger phillips, phillps of all shapes/types. No deal.
So now I feel like I'm hosed. Normally one can get a dremel tool and make a slot in the screw head, and use a flathead to get it out. In this case, the 2 tiny screws are nearly flush with the diff gear - no room to grind it.
Major bummer.
Pics of the greasy diff fun, just because.

I always wanted to do autocross with my old Subie. I was thinking about it with the LGT but now that it's out of commission for a while... I don't know. [:@]
Any idea on what costs are involved? Never tried it but it looks like it would be fun and exciting.
You can pretty much autocross everything but trucks and SUVs, right?

Costs involved, tires and brakes... frequently. That's about it if you are running stock class.
I am going to be running a Miata in the stock class the following summer form this, as my med school plan has been postponed a year due to me needing to study.
Stick is almost required, but not necessary.

Yeah I'm running a 4EAT. [:@] I've always driven auto, but I wanted to try stick. Unfortunately the 5 speed LGTs I saw were in much poorer shape than the automatics.
I'd love to do an STi swap... [&:] Of course then I wouldn't be stock, but oh what fun.

Yeah?! Didn't know that, I thought as long as you pass some inspection..
I mean, people take their Porsche Cayenne to the track and stuff.. and that's definitely a truck.. ! Check out the 4-wheel drift on the SUV, LOL!

Here in CT you care not allowed to Autocross any truck. I thought SCCA had regulations.

Eman, I guess you'd have to drill out those 2 screws then... not sure if there's any screw extractor that small.. maybe.. you should go to a hardware store and look for it...

RE: THE LOUNGE 3...
I looked up the rules for CT here, guess I was a bit mistaken, I don't think they would allow and Explorer though...
Karts and non-SCCA-classed SUV's are not permitted to enter our events. Pickup trucks are generally not permitted but may be allowed if, in the judgment of the technical committee and event chair, they do not present an undue hazard.
