I used to be into coarse fishing back in the day. Is yours a sea rod? I ask because it's VERY short for a freshwater or coarse rod, and even a bit short for a fly rod.

In any case, Peregrine are a class marque, so it should be good, but it is odd that there's nothing even remotely similar on their site (I looked as well). Are you sure it's genuine?

It Is very short to be a freshwater rod. You usally want a 6' 6" rod...

I like eating them, as long as someone else does the catching :P

I went fishing a few times as a kid with family, never really enjoyed it.

What exactly do you need to know about it? All the info on it is on the rod blank. It's size, line wt, lure wt, action.....and it's shorter than most rods in medium action.

Made in china.....are they made in china really?

Mmm, that's not the british company Peregrine. It doesn't look like a knock-off or anything, looks reasonable, but it's a cheap import for sure.

bait casting rods are nice but make sure you get a good quality bait casting reel to go with it. If you decide to go with a cheaper bait casting reel you will have a lot of problems (know this from experience). If you are use to a spin casting reel then it is going to take a little bit to get used to the bait casting reel and you will get tangles so have extra line available. The thing that surprises me is that it is two pieces, usually bait casting is one piece (due to the way they work). I might be wrong on this assumption but when I see 2 pc I would have to think that is two pieces.

Anyways, good luck with learning how to cast with this new pole. Also I recommend a low profile bait casting reel, they seem to be a little bit more forgiving.

FWIW A bait cast will out cast an open face everyday. I grew up using open face (spinning) rells and thought they were it....until I used my first bait caster. Now I primarily use bait casting set ups for most everything. Esp for musky....they would tear the innerds out of a spinning reel.

I love fishing. I go with my mate loads. I usually go coarse fishing for carp, tench, bream etc. I have used a coarse rod for trout fishing ocassionaly as well. I have fishing lakes right near where I live with 50lb carps in! However I have never caught one... I have seen someone catch a 24lb carp and that was huge!! I would love to go deep sea fishing one day...

I agree they are tougher...But i have been fishing Muskie for over 20 years with a spinning real and yet to have one fail. One of my biggest was when i was fishing for perch with a ultra lite 4 foot rod and 4 lb test..it was 25 lbs.

Just how in the heck do you fit enough line on it? A good fighting musky will spool you awfully quick unless your using a saltwater open face. At least the big ones around here will. My last one was BIG 30+lbs and I wouldn't have trusted a spinning reel to it personally.

I have caught over 100 muskie never been spooled.....I run 8lb test and around 120 yards..To tell you the truth i dont find muskie to be the best fighters,Some are like dead logs.Alot of them come up real slow untill they see the boat then they get hairy..Mine you i fish a small lake and the muskie are in the 20 pound range.I mostly fish Chinook Salmon,Now thats a fighting fish have been spooled many times.....I have a 38 pounder on the wall that took me a hour with 20lb test to land...I used to fish alot but i got married and had a kid so now i dont get out a lot...

Hey heres a pic of a pike i got on 4 lb test ultra lite rod..

We sound alike. I just sold my salmon boats. The penguin was 25 foot and the sea monkey was a 22 footer. Both were great fun and we logged over 50,000lbs of salmon in their life span with me. I agree on the salmon being the fish of fish for fighting. However musky are not all slouches. I have had a 48 incher take me to the end of my spool with the motor running...also had 50+ inchers come in like a log.........they all seem to be different as me and the other guy.

Heck she came over to the Islands with us many times. The pic with boat house is on Rock Island State Park. Google it....very cool place with lots of history. It is where Teddy invented the transistor I believe...better look again.

Here's the last Musky last year. She came on the 19 inch sucker minnow.
