Default Who has the fastest connection?

I wanna know who has the fastest connection. I know mine seems pretty slow at times, but I know other people have much slower, so...Anyway, right now, on my laptop,I'm running 54 megabytes a second. On my PC, which I have connected straight to the modem instead of wireless, its alot faster.

If you don't know how to check your speed, double click the symbol at the end of the blue arrow if you have wireless ( its a little picture of a computer with little wave thingies going off of it), double click the the symbol at the end of the red the arrow if you're connected straight to a modem ( one computer behind, and a little to the right of another).Connection speed is displayed in Mbps and when apppear like this: Connection speed xx.xMbps.

No.. that's not how fast your connection is.. I'm pretty sure (correct me if i'm wrong) that the number you see there is something among the lines of the max amount of speed your connection is able to achieve.

If you want to see how fast your "connection" (or internet) is, go to www.speedtest.net

Now, if I've wandered off to some other subject.. then ignore this post. LOL

No, that's not the speed of your internet connection. It's the speed of data transfer between your router and computer. A higher speed is useful if you have a network at home and want to transfer files from one computer to another, but that number does not change your internet speed since your internet will almost always be slower than the connection betwenn your router and computer. Wireless networks are usually between 54MBps-300MBps, and Ethernet is either 10MBps, 100MBps or 1,000MBps (Gigabit Ethernet) depending on the motherboard / ethernet card and the ethernet cable used.

Alright guys, I didn't say your internet connection speed, I SAID: "Who has the fastest connection speed?" As in, who has the fastest modem,, wireless card/adapter, and motherboard combination. I know how internet works and I know that with my service provider my MAX download speed is 12Mbps but I want to know how fast your home/office connection is.

^ ya, wireless-N is the fastest wireless out there, and thats what I run on my other PC...My main PC is plugged straight into the router,, but I'm not sure of its speed, I'll check later...

edit: As for my PC with the wireless-N, I just checked and it's running 117Mbps.

All our desktops in the house use Gigabit Ethernet (1,000MBps) and our laptops all use a 300MBps Wi-Fi N connection.

The OP is not asking what you connection speed to the Internet is. He is only interested in your internal network speeds. Please keep the thread on topic.

Default RE: Who has the fastest connection?

before you go crazy on me hear me out. at home I have dsl not sure what my speed is but I run vista and my computer is less then a year. at work we have old computers that run xp pro but we run a t3 line and it is blazing fast so I do think it is relative. like a corvette might be fast but in traffic it's no faster then a neon. we have a ton of computers and all are on line at the same time, I'm not a computer guy so sorry if I'm coming at of left field. I know it cost like $3000 a month for the t3. I could not get my speed that way but I did find that I'm running 100.0 mbps when I did a speed check it was only 55 on the up load down load test but all that crap means not one thing to me. I turn it on and it's magic.

i run gigabit and 802.11 N (pretty much the fastest you will get for home networking). It really helps when running lan parties or streaming media. There is virtually no lag at all for me. Also I have 2 1.5 TB HD's and hold a TON of movies on them . basically my new computer is just a place to hold media and be stupid fast. but honestly 100 meg is the norm and for most people they will not have a problem with it.
