I guess what he means is that influenza (the flu) is a specific viral disease, which kills people in pretty short order. It has almost been eradicated in the modern world, and if you were to contract it, you would only survive if you were very strong and healthy.

This 'swine flu', is not really influenza, it has symptoms which are similar, but basically, 'swine flu' is a laymans term so that people can know what to expect in terms of symptoms. Similarly, many of us when we have a very heavy cold say 'I have the flu', which is also technically wrong. If you had the flu, you'd be on your way to hospital.

Anyway, if that's not what he means, it's still a nice little factoid.
Actually, according to the CDC, one of the foremost athorities on communicable diseases in the world, swine flu (Novel influenza A or H1N1) is indeed a new strain of the influenza virus. From their web site:

A New Influenza Virus

Novel influenza A (H1N1) is a new flu virus of swine origin that was first detected in April, 2009.

sorry my bad.
bonemeal wasdredged from the bottom of a river in india.
the ganges river.
human bodies were thrown in the river in ceromonys.

if anyone has a educated or somewhat educated comment
it would be great, but this is just off topic and a little bit embarrassing
really.
I'd sure like to see some back-up to that bonemeal statement because I, for one, think it's rediculous.
First off, bone meal is ground up bones. How exactly does enough ground up bone accumulate in a river as huge as the Ganges to be dredged and how is the bonemeal filtered from normal river sediment? It is just not plausable to me.  Since the Indians actually put their dead into the river I suspose that it's possible that bones were dredged from the river and ground but, since they also believe that the river is sacred, I don't really see that happening w/o extreme public outcry.

As far as the educated comments, there's an old computer programers saying that I think applies nicely.
"Garbage in = garbage out"

Yep, note the key words 'new' in your post, and 'almost' in mine. We can't eradicate a strain before it exists unfortunately.

Dave, I was able to google some info on this: [link]http://www.newsday.com/news/health/wire/sns-ap-mad-cow-disease,0,5952651.story[/link]

Looks like the hypothesis is a stretch, but something to consider.

Update I retested myself on my phone application and I still have the Swine Flu.

You touch your nose to the screen and it tells you if you have it.  Probably need to shut down the country even though I would fight it off no problem.
