today my father and i went fishing. i bought a new Abu Garcia 6000 the other day for a pole i had lying around, and today was the maiden voyage. we got to the lake about 4:30 pm, after we tried another lake, but the lake was closed. so we're getting everything set up, and my dad bends over to wash his hands in the lake, and almost falls. the edge of the bank is about 2 feet above the water, as their is a retaining wall there. a few minutes i bent over to put down a pole holder, and went in the lake. i knew it was happening, kind of like slo-mo, and it sucked. the water was only about 3 feet deep, but as you can imagine i didn't fall in feet first. fished all day in wet clothes, ruined my phone, got all the stuff in my wallet wet, and didn't catch any fish except a few tiny bluegill i used as bait. it was a nice day though. the tree closest to the lake of the opposite side of where the pic was taken is about where i fell in. the lake is the same color as a pine tree...

That sucks. How did you happen to randomly topple into the lake while setting a pole holder down? I don't get it.
Looks like a nice place, though.

to eman77, i was putting it in the ground near the edge of the water, then my foot slipped. my foot was in the space between the tops of the top course of block.
mr. mugen, it is technically a pond in the city. i don't know if you know st. louis, but it is in ferguson. i've never fallen in lake superior, but i have fallen in the middle of the missouri river. it wasn't the fishing that made me unhappy, it was the other events.

Here is where I fish. This is just part of the lake. Darn that sucks that you fell in. But I noticed every time I dont catch fish I always catch a lot when I go back.

im fishing at this place this weekend, no where near as nice looking, but good fishing. last time i went, we only stayed for about 10 mins. a storm started up with about 40 mph winds, and rain. in that 10 mins though 2 guys caught 60 lb cats, and a few good sized drums.

i meant 1970's in the post above lol. last night the fishing wasn't too bad. i hooked into a monster cat =) iit hit my big river pole which is solid wood, and bent it good on the first hit. as i was getting up to go get the pole, it ripped the pole holder out of the ground. after a battle i got the fish into the shallows. it broke my line once it got it in the shallows, 50 lb spyder wire. i got a look at the fish and i looked to be 15-20 lbs, broke my heart to see it dash away.

Yup. I went fishing Saturday evening. There were too many boats in and out. I was on a dock in Red Top Mountain State Park. We normally catch 15 to 20 crappie over a period of 2 hours when we go, but with all the boat traffic, we managed to get two crappie, two little perch and a bluegill. Even though it wasn't much, it's always fun! Only bad part was when my 7 year old nephew's pole got yanked in the water. It broke his heart, but he's getting a new one today.

I've broken numerous rods after setting them under a rope cleat on a boat or dock. I beat myself with the broken ends whenever I do it. You'd figure after the first couple rods, I'da learned. Guess you can't fix stupid sometimes.

Ive destroyed rods by stepping on them. Ill say to my self dont turn around your pole is on the ground, 5 seconds later i turn around and step.
jikkuria why dont you use braided line for the cats?

No doubt. Been using 80lb power pro for years and never had a Musky break me off. Bet a cat would be much the same...maybe with 100lb power pro? 80lb casts so nice it's crazy. I have to purposely cast "easy" or I end up way past my target with this stuff. A Daiwa Luna sure makes a difference to. It is hands down the best casting reel I have owned to date and I've owned more reels than r/c's.....

when the cat broke my 50lb line, it was braided. i think it may have clipped a rock on the shore and cut the line. today, i went fishing at a local pond. small bluegill, but i didn't know there were any cats in there. i hooked into a 6 or 7 pound flathead on my ultralight with 4 pound line, it was a fight. i worked him in to the bank, and as my friend reached down to grab the fish, he grabbed the line and it broke.
