Its auto, manual is a hassle in Baton Rouge traffic and going to school traffic. I will lower it, but I need struts as well as new springs. And coilovers are a bit pricey for a highschool student, idk. We'll see. Thanks

Great looking car. Lots of potential. Sell the rims, put something smaller on (16" max), and put the left over money toward the H&R Cup spring kit (or similar). An exhaust tip and a front lip, and you'll be golden. Don't whatever you do put a spoiler on a front wheel drive car.

Nice ride, I love Jettas. Great car to boot and plenty of things you can do to them.

Oh SNAP!! you guys call them jettas, huh?

OK Annie, here's a tip for you, if you want to see the best styled examples (British, of course, my opinion ), then you need to search for VW Bora, that's what we call them. Bora is greek for storm by the way, but I don't know if that's got anything to do with their choice for the name, I doubt it, just a happy coincidence.

I still have a space in the garage reserved for my Corrado VR6 one day.

Nice ride....If I were you, I'd just leave it alone other than gas and the proper maintenence....I know that's not as much fun, but having a nice reliable car when you don't have a ton of money is better than you'll know, till you get older.....

A MKIV? aww. Shoulda got a MKIII. Here's some motivation

But yeah.
1. Slam it asap. Get some smaller wheels.
2. Exhaust. Front lip. Clear corners. Grill.
4. ???
5. PROFIT!

Nice ride man, especially for a high school car.
I drove a beat up 1976 full size Chevy Blazer with a piece of plywood for a back window...
That my dad spray painted "DA BEARS" on.
(I come from high class ya know)
If it's the 20V engine I recomend changing the timing belt before 70,000 MI.
I have a few of the bent valves still in my toolbox from the guy that lost his belt at 80,000.
Also I saw you say you "need" new struts.
Is that to lower it or because it bangs over bumps?
If you have a knocking noise over bumps it's prolly only the mounts unless the struts are leaking.
Front strut mounts are a wearable item on those cars and go bad more than the struts themselves.
Just trying to help you out man.

Holy hell, lots of replies. Thanks guys.

Foxy: I'm keeping the wheels, and I would want 17" if I got any other wheels, 16 is not my style. I have to purchase new struts along with springs or my suspension will blow out in a week or so. I know it's a Bora in every other country, I'm no dummy. I will look at lips for them and I would consider an OEM spoiler, I like some.

Feo: Again, (lol) I'm keeping the wheels and I think I may get a 2.5in exhaust built for it. Not sure.

cmerritt: 2.0L

SLAYERDUDE: It doesn't bottom out or anything but in order to keep my suspension actually suspending my car I will need to purchase struts as well as lowering springs. Thanks for the tip though.

2.5 inch exhaust is a lot, more than you need for a Jetta. Will hurt the down low performance of the car

I've talked to plenty of drivers who have 2.0 Jettas and run 2.5-2.75 and are happy. Some run 3.0 on turbo setups.

Not raggin on you here but I agree the 2.5" is overkill and might even lose performance unless you do some head work and get more flow that needs to get out the back.
I used to have a cid/HP/exh size chart but I can't find it.
I think a small block V8 5.7L 300HP with true duals only required 2" pipes, but I could be wrong.
My memory fails me these days.
I bend custom exhaust systems at work and have done 2.5" systems on Hondas and they seemed slower after I finished.
That is going from 1.75" to 2.5" though.
I think your Vdub should have 2.25" from the factory...I think. :S

IMHO a cool looking muffler that sounds good would be worth more per dollar than a full catback system.
Unless you plan on doing intake and head work in the future.
You could spend the cash saved on RC!
I don't know much about perf fwd cars tho.

That's funny in Europe how they call the same cars different things in different countries.
I remember them being called Jetta in Sweden years ago.

Also, Opel is called Opel everywhere in Europe part from the UK where it's Vauxhall.
But the UK always has to be different from the rest of Europe.
Drive on the other side of the road, imperial instead of metric etc.

nice car, but i think the very slim spokes coupled with a very low profile tyre looks odd, as its quite a chunky car..

A lot of 89 civic owners here run 3.0 and they are happy too, with a slower car. 2.5 inch is good for 300+ HP applications.

I have no tip cut out on the bumper. [:'(]

A full exhaust adds power in most situations. Borla, EuroSport..etc.

I'm 18. You will change your mind so many times, so don't stick to one car. Driving isn't all that you think it is. THe freedom is fun, but the insurance and gas kills that...
I'm black, and I skate. Never a breakdancer, you've never seen a skater before?
