RE: custom computer?
it once was cheaper to build a computer. you could get one from walmart for under 400.00 and put a high end video cars in it .and it would be good

RE: custom computer?
like what, a Gateway or Dell? please. Its still better to build you own. That is, if you ever plan to upgrade it. Thankfully companies dont use as much proprietary hardware as they used to, but some still use oddball configurations. Like some dells being BTX instead of ATX.

RE: custom computer?
I used to fix computers for my school. DO NOT GET A DELL!!!!!!! Dells have the worst mobos out there. Build your own computer besides if you buy a prebuilt computer its loaded with so much crapware its ridiculous. I dont have the time to look through all that stuff sorry.

RE: custom computer?
Maybe I missed it but I do not see a heatsink for the CPU. BE chips do not come with one.
What are you using this computer for? Gaming / video and the like or just to surf? All of the parts you listed "should" work together (at work I do not have the time to check each one out) but from what I saw they should. Also is there a reason you are going with a micro case / mobo? It is just much harder to keep this cool and there is less room for expansion. |
RE: custom computer?
if you still looking to build a computer you find the best prices at http://www.pricewatch.com/
|
RE: custom computer?
Pricewatch is a great website IF you know what you are looking for. You can find the best prices on single items but a lot of the times new egg will be very close to the price or you can combo one item w/ another for a discount. It might not always be the cheapest but from my experiences they are they best overall.

both gateway and dell hd and mobo's are crap..

RE: custom computer?
ORIGINAL: turbodremz23 both gateway and dell hd and mobo's are crap.. Its always better to build a computer on your own. You can also PICK your warranty on some products, get LIFETIME on many products, and you know you are getting quality! my current setup: ASUS M3A79-T Deluxe AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ 3.0 GHZ processor (89W) 2GB OCZ PC6400 RAM (4-4-4-15) and last but not least... a budget card from my previous setup... XFX 8600 GT XXX (due for upgrade, its next on my list) |
RE: custom computer?
I built a computer back in 2001-02 and it finally died this week because of bad capacitors - which happened to be wide spread problem that still haunts new products today.
I bought a Dell (dual quad core) because if I were to build the computer to the same specs I have now, it would have cost 2.5 times as much. The bonus is I don't need to fight with brand new defective hardware, poorly written drivers on the cd, conflicting hardware issues because they share the same IRQ slots or all those other things. |
RE: custom computer?
yea back in the day it was cheaper to build your own but now a days its cheaper to just buy a complete computer. only reason i would suggest building a pc is if you want to buy the best of everything, which will cost you a ton or if you just like that kind of stuff.
and how many of you have a pc with a floppy drive? haha i have 3 pc's, non of which have a floppy drive |

RE: custom computer?
I personally say build your own, and dont skimp on the parts. Dont buy ECS, they are horrible MBs. Get decent memeory too, if you go with the cneaper mem, you risk getting a dead stick.
As already said above, get an Asus MB if you can. Those are great boards, and less prone to varioous problems. For a CPU? Intel is proabaly teh best now. AMD is okay, but AMD chips do run hotter and suck more power. Also, I think Intel has fine tuned its architechture now so that it is actually better than AMD's. Yes, it can be MORE expensive to build your own PC than buy a proprietory bprebuilt like a Dell or HP. So, shop around and choose wisely especially if you choose to build your own. |
RE: custom computer?
I've always built my own and will continue to do so... of course I get some good discounts by having a relative who works at Intel.

RE: custom computer?
Dont get that case!!!
It sucks! The handle is connected to plastic, all the metal is cheap and inferior and bendable and apevia power supplies are known for smoking. I came home one day, turned on my comp and literaly my power supply (apevia) started shooting smoke, then flames out the back. I tried a new PS and the motherboard's power management was fried too. Go with the thermaltake lan box. I just built one for my girlfriend. The case is really nice, well thought out, very sturdy. The only con is that its heavy. If you get the case get a thermal take blue ord heatsink, its works perfectly with the case, right size, power and looks. Go with DDR2 800, its much cheaper, I got 2x2gb patraiot DDR2 800 cas 4 for $49.99 Get the Asus P5Q-EM its a great mobo and go with an intel chip. There is no reason to go 64 bit right now, not enough support. Also I take it you are not a gamer, right? cause that graphics card is weak if you plan on playing games. |
RE: custom computer?
Dont plan on playing Crysis with that build. If you arent going to use this computer for gaming, then I'd probably just buy a cheap desktop. The only reason for building a computer is if you plan on gaming with it. Thats what I believe anyway. I dont see any reason to build yourself a computer just for homework/internet.
