[b]A new world wasn't needed. The posts about mixture should have stayed in engines, and all the power/pitch posts to aerodynamics. Aerodynamics that is, for all but the fellow who "Doesn't get it." His should go in the beginner's forum.

YES I think I am part of the culprit to starting this weird around the block and no where to turn conversation. So for the youngster I just have to say I once couldn't understand how and why a plane whether a 747 or a model could lift itself off of the ground and maintain altitude.

I then went on a search for the answers and right here on RCU I was told '' all the control services do is point the plane in a particular direction and the thrust is what keeps it in the air.

Perfect example : I use to love making paper planes. I made one for my nephew one day and when I threw it it stay in the air for a good 2 seconds. Then I added to small elevators pitched up about 30 degrees and when I threw it ( I was in the house ) it never landed it actually went from the dinning room to the living room and hit the wall . I can't explain it any clearer than the elevator pitched the nose up and gave it a longer flight but the plane never went higher or lower when thrown at the same velocity.

RTK,

I would say air flow thru the fins, added oil (castor?) that the engine passes and added methanol fuel if you are running too rich.

Skypilot-- How are we going to get any mileage (controversy) out of that answer? But then again you never know.

Since this is the off topic forum I have a question for Jettpilot. This is nothing more than a question so no one take it any other way.

Are you a Jet pilot as your moniker indicates? Just curious.

I tried to work out how much the castor cools the engine, but gave up when it turned out looking like work.

Maybe I'm slow, but you are going to have to explain that last statement to me. I understood the one before.

I had to go back to my 121 and 131 days...but I think you guys have some good accurate info here...but it seems to me on an aproach to landing ILS or VFR the throttle was used keep us in the air and the steering wheel guided the ship...4000+hrs and never lost a single sole... but then again the throttle can be managed to stay on GS with a fixed pitch...

but then again that was a long time ago...and since then I have hit my noggin a few too many times..[sm=bananahead.gif]

Set RTO Power, Power Set, airspeed alive, cross checked 70 kts, v1 rotate, positive rate gear up, gear lights out, ding ding, flaps 5, flaps up, Yellow bug Yaw dampner on, auto pilot on...now gimme my magazine....

I have never noticed a mixture change with altitude or airspeed. All my non pumped engines experience a very noticeable mixture change as the tank empties, so I set the needle a little too rich on the ground and after a couple of minutes in the air its perfect.

Bill,
Your words were not wasted. Some of us were already taught in the military the elevator is primarily a speed control and the throttle is a power control, primarliy used to gain altitude.
