Bummer, Mate. All you folks are in our prayers. Flooding is a fairly common occurance areound here, but it's hard for me to imagine what it's like for y'all, Even though I know better, I first think of dry, high desert, when someone mentions Australia, and the concept of too much water there gives me pause. If only Mother Nature were the only "force" man had to contend witn,,,,,,,,,,,,

Hang in there, Grover1, and God speed hekp to all of you.

How is the water up at tin can bay?

I'm in north Brsbane and we got a little flooded downstairs this morning, it was a massive downpour this morning! nothing to write home to about compared with the amount of water up north!

Thanks

Here, Rockhampton is still isolated and low lying areas are under water, including at leas a metre over our flying field.<div>pictures here http://www.rmac.org.au/galleryAssorted.html#floodpics</div><div>
</div><div>But</div><div>
</div><div>the flooded areas are low lying, and this area IS a flood plain. You have to drive across a causeway to get into Rocky from the south and west.</div><div>This causeway is built 1m below the 50 year flood level. So we have had a 50 year flood, So the road is 1 metre under.</div><div>
</div><div>The original settlers here built in Gracemere, which  is high and dry. </div><div>So what bright spark decided that building a town on a river, including the flood plain area, was a good idea. </div><div>Most of Rocky is high and dry, they are just cut off.</div><div>It's more the isolation that is panicking people than actual flood damage.</div><div>I believe the Fitzroy River has one of the largest catchment areas in the southern hemisphere.</div><div>
</div><div>And it has been dry here for 15 years.</div><div>A small flood in 2008, and now a larger one, but still not to 1991 or 1956 levels.</div><div>We have probably had over 750mm of rain fall on us since season start, but hey, this IS central Queensland.</div><div>We are lucky to live here, this IS Gods own country.</div><div>So a little water must fall.</div><div>
</div><div>Toughen the F^&amp;*k up and get over it, as my dear Dad would tell me.</div>

sorry to hear that mate, hope all those that are dear to you are safe.

Here are some pics of the Brisbane river down near the Regatta Hotel at Toowong. As you can see the flood party is in full swing in the pub

Ipswich is predicted to get a flood peak of 22 meters tomorrow and Brisbane could go to 5.5m whcih is higher then the 74 floods.

Robbo and all his staff are ok, from what I have heard they got out before the water really hit. However they lost about 3/4 of their stock, water looked to be about chest deep through the shop. Gunna need a major rebuild internally I would say. Glad they are ok but hope that insurance covers them.

lets hope all the insurance companies do the right thing by people and not look for a loophole to worm out of paying

Victoria has copped it as well. I was luckily in a town that didn't cop anything but towns 50km away did.
