Help please.
 

I'm not sure where to post this but I need help. Here is my problem.

I am having problems with me Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. When I turn it on the lower 2/3's of the monitor is solid black. After about 10 mins or so the same 2/3's starts flickering and then it goes gray. Is there anyone on here that is familiar with this type of problem? If so what can I do to fix it. I have already called Dell and they want to charge me about $500 to try and fix the problem. For that price I could get another laptop.

Does it have the capability to hook to an external monitor? Is so, hook it up and if the external monitor shows the same problem, then the defect is with the system unit. If not, then the problem is the screen. Once you determine which one is failing, look for a local repair shop.

This just goes to show you the average intelligence of the car guys. Why would this be posted in an RC forum in the first place? I suppose you go to computer forum to ask car questions.

It sounds like the lamps in the monitor are going bad. The parts are not that expensive, however unless you are experienced in the repair of monitors you probably don't want to attempt it.
