Default 48'' Katana - Tank under wing?

I would like to mount a larger tank on my Katana under the wing, My YS 63 should pull the fuel ok but I'm not sure if its a doable thing. Any comments or suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks
Dale

My comment is it's probably do-able, but I'm not sure it would be desirable. Unless your field is littered with balsa magnets, a deadstick with this plane is no disaster. Some days half my flights end in deadsticks because the plane is too much fun to bring down as long as there's fuel in the tank. I would think with your YS63 and typical 3D flying you'd get 15 minutes out of the stock tank. Tank under the wing would be draggier and complicate the lift characteristics I would think.

A better solution in my mind would be higher nitro. If you buy your fuel by the case, 30% nitro is not much more expensive but it is more economical. I find on my YS63 with 30% vs 20% I use less throttle so I get a few more minutes per tankful--I once calculated about 30% more flight time.

I really don't see the need to mess with a good thing if you know what I mean. The standad side mounted tank arrangement is well proven and reliable. I can get well up to 12 min of flying and still have fuel left. Flying 3d profiles usually means you are only averaging half throttle most of the time anyway.

Hey, how about fuel bladders in the wings like a real plane? Need a pump but just think, you could fly for hours!
