Default New Planes from OMP!!!

Folks, there has been a lot of talk at various places and threads so I thought I would consolidate here. OMP has three new offerings coming any day now.

1. All new 47" Yak (ProYak) V3D. This new yak replaces the older Kat 46 and is a totally new design from the previous OMP 47" Yak. Longer fuse, thinner wings, two-piece wing that can be removed or permanently glued in place (your option!), and best of all patented OMP construction with integral fiberglass tube in the fuselage and laser cut balsa sheeting for exceptional stiffness and durability. The new Yak also has larger tail surfaces to satisfy the hungriest 3D slab flyer. Kits will be ready to ship this Monday and yes we will be pursuing ARFs for the summer.

2. 80" Edge kits are back and will also be ready to ship this Monday. Same as the previous 80" Edge, the popular giant slab is like flying a huge foamy and is rediculously stable in hovers and torque rolls. If you want big bird funfly presence this is it.

3. 80" Fusion kit. Yes it is finally here, the giant scale version of the verstile Fusion is absolutely amazing. 80 inches of precision and 3D all in one package. The Fusion excels at precision IMAC, pattern, and 3D flying and is IMAA giant scale legal!

Just ordered the Fusion.

What gas engines were used on the prototypes? Can I clear a 22in prop with room to spare?
I'm looking at the Brillelli 46GT. What else should I consider?

Ok I fixed the link. My bad. Shipping on all kits should start Monday. We're picking up plans from the printer today and will be packing them up this weekend!

Being a profile a beam mounted engine is certainly the best option although many have modified the fronts of the giant profiles for the bulkhead style mounted gas engines. Probably the most popular gas engine used on the 80" Edge was the MVVS 2.15 gasser. Equivalent to a 35 cc engine and mounts right on the profile beams. There are some other beam mounted gassers out there as well now. The 30-40 cc gas engine size is right about the tradeoff point for going gas or glow. The glow engines are still better overall power to weight. But the gassers sure are nicer - more reliable and cleaner.

@ 1600+ sq.in. (edge) or 1360 sq.in. (fusion) of wing area it could easily take the weight of a 50cc engine. would this work? i'm flying your 40size profile with a saito 91 and having lots of fun so, if it possible to put a 50cc on a 80in plane i would definitely try it

Many have modified the 80" Edge for a 50 cc engine. I've even seen a DA50 on one. Being kit built you have the ability to easily make your modifications as you build for the bulkhead mount engine and ignition module.

Mike, thinking about one of the 80" Fusion kits. I'm about done with the Hybrid (just need to finish covering) and I might just get bored without anything to build. Which would be better: OS160 with mousse can or Saito 180? I'd prefer gas but might not want all the weight.

Try the Saito 220(glow version). Only about 3 oz more than the OS, 6oz more than the 180. lots more power.

And, about a 100 bucks more! Ah, oh well. It's only money.

Maybe I should go electric

Electric has been done. We had an electric version of the 80" Edge on the cover of Quiet Flyer several years back. Big bucks though for batteries that size!!! Personally I prefer the OS 160 with the sport pipe setup. Currently I'm using the Budweiser beer can/bottle setup. The new aluminum bottle shaped cans Bud makes are perfect. Use two glued together with JB Weld.

Just a quick update all three kits are now in stock and shipping. Most backorders have gone out with more going out today. If you have backordered or given us your name for preorder please give John a call to finalize your order. We'll take what is left to Toledo next Thursday and there probably won't be any left after that!

Mike,

Will you be making another production run of the 80" Edge 540, or for that matter any of the 3, if you sell out at the Toldeo show?

Absolutely. I'm sure I'll take a break to catch up on personal planes and flying but we'll plan on it.

I really think the Pro Yak is going to be a good one. I'm not sure how Spacey feels, but I'm in favor of it.

lol..If I didn't just spend 5 months worth of budget on a new eggbeater I would have had a Yak in the mail already. Still think I'm going to send Mike an email later to check what shipping that sucker this side with the same high nitro pigeons is going to cost me.

Hey Frank, can you even build a kit? haha Just kidding ya. I tell you I like this new Yak a LOT! It is way more responsive than the Edge V3 but not as loose as the 52" Fusion. Should be a great intermediate to advanced 40 size Slab. The longer tail adds a lot of stability but the bigger tail feathers still give it authority. John won't let me fly it anymore until after Toledo John has learned that if he wants an OMP display model he should not count on me! haha. I fly my planes hard like a veteran Bro should.

Spacey, looks like USPS Priority Mail is $37 for 6-10 day delivery. Not sure what the pigeons are charging these days.

Mike,

Thanks - I just got my Giant Fusion. The box arrived damage free and the kit looks superb. I can't wait to get started.

Awesome Chumley. Keep us all posted with a build thread if you can. You have one of the very first kits of this new plane! [sm=thumbup.gif] The instructions I hope are pretty good although I'll admit I could use some added pictures here and there! If you post some build pics maybe I could steal them and add them to the manual! [8D]

Mike,

I looked at all the instructions and they look pretty complete to me. I will document my progress and you can have anything you need from the resulting pics. Thanks for one of the first kits!
