DA 85 on the Edge Hybrid?????????????
I know... I know... it's way to much motor for the application. However I would like to know if anyone has tried it, or if anyone has one flying? Will it even fit in the engine compartment? Thanks in advace for any info!

I would guess the vibrations from a DA85 would tear teh Hybrid apart. Keep in mind the Hybrid is a 16-17 lb plane when built correctly. So in other words it is built very light.

How about the DLE 55 on a canister? We flew both our OMP Hybrids on DA50s with canisters and they had plenty of power. Not like the little profiles but right in line like any giant scale plane.

RE: DA 85 on the Edge Hybrid?????????????
I know of a Hybrid Edge that I know has been flying for at least four years with a Sachs 4.2. I know that's 69cc and not 85cc but it is the biggest engine that I have seen on a Hybrid. The airframe is holding up well all things considered. The landing gear blocks have been knocked out twice but it hasn't had any flight failures and it has seen a lot of flights in four years. I have a 50cc engine on my Hybrid and it flies like a foamy. There is a definite flight envelope advantage when these planes are kept light. The 50cc on stock muffler has more than enough power for unlimited vertical from a hover. The 85cc will have better vertical performance but the rest of the flight envelope will suffer because of the extra weight. I didn't think that with a wing as big as this plane has that one pound would make a difference on how it flies but the difference is huge.

I had a Hybrid with a DA50. It was a very good combo. I'm building a new one which will have an EVO58. I had to add a little nose weight to the first one so I think the Evo will balance good without added weight. With the DA50 I would have liked a little more power, so I think the EVO58 will be a perfect combo. Not sure what a DA85 weighs but if it's around 4 lbs you should have one he** of a 3D monster.

I guess my airframe must be on the heavy side. And possibly the BME 50 doesn't put out as much power as the DA/DL. I'm running the BME 50 with Mtw header and cannister, Mejlik 22X8. The airplane will barely pull out of a hover. It's not much fun to 3D down low because you have zero reserve power to get out of situations. Maybe shed some weight and get rid of the can and go with stock muffler. Thanks for all the info..

Mine with a DA50 and stock side muffler spinning a 23x8 would hover at a little less than half throttle with good pull out. It would have been nice to have more power for waterfalls or maybe I just need to practice more. Although my next one will have an Evo58, I think the DLE55 would be an excellent choice.

i`ll second the 55 or 58.mine is tail heavy with a 3mm w/ a header & can. i`ve moved the engine up 1 1/2 inch from the stock location, but i must build tail heavy.

How much thrust does a 55-60cc class gasoline engine put out with stock and with a tuned exhaust system? And is this adequate for the Hybrid's 17 +/- pound weight? Can we hit the magic 2x Thrust-weight ratio???

I had one of these with a DA 50. Power was marginal since I flew 1500 meters altitude. I am conidering to build a new one
with ZDZ 80 and a Slimline wraparound muffler. Also note that the ZDZ is the lightest and the most compact in its class.
