Default The ultimate irresistibly beautiful "dallas doll" p-51 mustang fighter plane

THE ULTIMATE IRRESISTIBLY BEAUTIFUL "DALLAS DOLL" P-51 MUSTANG FIGHTER PLANE (This was the intended title but somehow what we see above is what was posted and could not be edited.) ENJOY ANYWAY! THAT'S AN ORDER AIRMAN!

http://www.horizonhobby.com/products...nology-EFL6750 (present web site URL)

This model of the world's greatest fighter plane of all time will be slightly modified with a larger diameter prop for greater vertical performance. Provisions for much greater airflow through the fuselage for better cooling when pulling 35-40 Amps through a substituted 40 Amp ESC will be made. The wheel wells will be covered with clear heat shrunk material; and in the beginning of its flying career the fixed landing gear will be bent forward some for better landing performance. Equipped with the new high tech SPEKTRUM AR635 receiver this "Dallas Doll" P-51 Mustang is expected to perform much like my Spitfire and Hurricane fighters are capable of with their AR635 receivers.

AIM HIGH, FLY, FIGHT, WIN!!!

Out.

PS Yes, I just might have to run retracts after all. I just read the information about the included retracts and it would seem unseemly to not use them in spite of all the extra ugly weight involved.

Finished testing a nice performing four (4) bladed prop for use mainly on my new "Dallas Doll" when it makes it's debut to the combat zone some time around September. The final test proved to be very successful powering my belly landing version of Parkzone's F4U-1A Corsair very convincingly through my usual test maneuvers. Using a stock recommended battery maximum current was just over 39 Amps.

Two Master Airscrew 12X6 prop's blades were shaped to look a lot like the very successful 12X8 X3 three bladed Master Airscrew props that are being used very successfully on my PZ MK. IX Spit. The load on the power system is adjusted by the amount of "depitching" of the prop by sanding material from the flat side of the prop airfoil mostly near the trailing edge of the prop.

So, except for the longer prop blades and higher vertical performance than stock, my beautiful "Dallas Doll" should look very much like the very impressive front views of this deadly looking warplane on PZ's original advertising.

Rolling in to attack now.

Out.

THE ULTIMATE MUSTANG

By now most Model Aviation magazine readers have surely seen the advertising on the back cover and; most E-flite fighter plane veterans will surely be sympathetic with the title.

I thought it would be fun to share some of the "adjustments" that could make it my most flown fighter. Under good conditions except for the addition of a high thrust four (4) blade prop, the ship will operate "normally." Okay, under poor landing conditions the "landing gear" will either be used as "take off gear" only or not used at all. Special reinforcement will be needed to protect the radiator intake on belly landings; and my special flexible automatic variable pitch "just fly at any altitude" two blade prop (explained on other fighter threads) will be used.

I am having so much fun with the use of very scale looking flap deflection angles on other park flyer fighters under mild conditions that I plan to do the same thing with the Doll. I always practice high enough to gain confidence before attempting to land under such unstable conditions. Most of my landings are done with very close to instruction book recommended flap deflection angles.

So, I fully expect the Doll be my ULTIMATE MUSTANG and my ULTIMATE FIGHTER!

Out.

YES!!! But I am so impressed with this historic piece of flying art that I will be spending an excessive amount of time luxuriating in the pleasure of modifying it to fly like the rest of my fighters. It sure looks great with its new specially designed larger four bladed prop as it sets majestically in the number one spot on top of my living room entertainment center!

Must break off the attack now and enjoy this model of the recognized GREATEST FIGHTER PLANE OF ALL TIME!

I own this and I say leave it stock. Have a look at my thread complete with videos: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/park...ht-review.html

Here is a look at the videos here too just for fun

This is the BNF Basic, which means it doesn't come with a battery or a charger. It does come with a receiver to bind to your Spektrum radio such as a Spektrum DX6 like I used in the maiden flight in this video.

This is my first park flyer sized P-51 and it is the first plane I have ever owned that comes complete with flaps and retracts, which was a bit intimidating to say the least.

Horizon Hobby and E-flite did a good job overall this RC plane in spite of the cons I have noted below in the flight review notes. I am still in awe of how well it flies. It was modeled after the "Dallas Doll" North American P-51 Mustang Warbird and this one certainly looks the part.

Flight Review Notes:

Cons
- Paint flakes off way too easy and glue is required
- Arrived with dinged up flap
- Slightly underpowered
- Used up more battery than other HH warbirds

Pros
- Tracks really well right out of the box and required no trim
- The AS3X did not interfere with the flight
- Quick and easy build overall
- Comes with flaps and retracts

http://youtu.be/BVdlu-BC5cw My overall conclusion is that If you are on the fence about buying this like I was, jump off and get your piece of World War II history today. None of the issues I had with this plane impacted the flight performance in a negative way.

Here is just the maiden flight for those that don't want to hear me talk lol

My model of this historic flying art beauty is ready for its maiden. It's just too much fun at the moment to do anything but enjoy the emotional high of anticipating flight with all of the modifications that have been performed on it.

More eventually, I promise.

Out.

Click picture for interesting info.

My deadly Dallas Doll looked very much like the real thing in every way except for the "F-15 like vertical climb" after take off with vertical victory rolls near the top of the climb. The scale like speed of my model with its lower pitch larger diameter four bladed prop did seem to hinder the quality of four point rolls some. My dandy "automatic variable pitch Just Fly At Any Altitude prop" used on the second flight provided better flight performance and easily handled the "gear up belly landing" on the soft grass covered ball field near where a nice ROG landing was accomplished on the first maiden flight mission today. Knife edge flight was surprisingly easy (practice with other planes seems to be finally paying off) but in the variable winds up to 25 mph the plane looked rather strange flying so slowly with the wings almost vertical while flying directly into the wind on its fuselage and prop.

Almost made an unintentional wheels up landing on the first flight. I was enjoying the turbulence induced wing wagging show as the ship was slowly coming toward me into the wind with half flap deflection. I happened to notice the gear was still retracted. Fortunately, the totally new experience of lowering landing gear was enjoyed along with extra drag and slower landing speed. I throttled up slightly and touched down nicely right next to my position

Protection against belly landing hazards includes carefully applied wide clear plastic packing tape on fuselage areas and narrow clear packing tape mostly on the underside of the wing and lapped slightly on the upper side of the leading edge of the wing. An iron adjusted with just enough heat to shrink the plastic can help eliminate wrinkles in the tape, Carbon fiber "tow" strands protect those easily "dingable " areas. More ventilation was added on the aft bottom section of the fuselage and holes were drilled in the prop back plate as well as opening up the spinner prop openings some to aid cooling for the forty (40) Amp ESC when running higher thrust props.

I also added carbon fiber reinforced triangle shaped "servo protectors" in front of the aileron servo arms to prevent anything hard from hitting them on marginal conditions landings.

Gotta break off the attack now and head back to base.

Out.

So I was able to get out and fly my new E-Flite P-51 Mustang today after not being able to fly since the maiden over a month ago. In many ways it felt like the maiden all over again as you can see by how poorly executed my take-off was. It was still a great flight and I still have the grin on my face

VICTORY

Compliments of the "inspiration" provided by the recent hacker's damage to
my fighter threads, evidence of the overwhelming success of my latest
bombing and strafing run on Facebook can be seen below; 51 minutes after
the attack I cut and pasted the undeniable progress of revolutionary
technology below.

"Normally" such information tends to get wiped out within seconds.

ENJOY!

Friends and countrymen,

The energy technology revolution is continuing to move right along now though still somewhat "behind the scenes." There is a real opportunity for us to participate in the ultimate victory of TRUTH by signing the petition now located at the top of my "Facebook Timeline." What can they do to us since it really isn't practical to kill all of us? Besides, given the way the country is going, what do we have to lose? Hopefully, all the emphasis on the importance of courage will help win the day. Who knows but what we have come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Just an amazing morning in Central Florida for an Amazing RC Model and it is a crying shame this model is discontinued.

After working on it throughout the night, replacing the Stock ESC to the Castle Creations Thunderbird 36-AMP ESC and touching up on the paint after filling in some void areas on the Foam, this morning I was able to maiden the model on my watch!

Performed just what I had expected after watching my buddy who had one a couple of years ago. It performed Cuban-8's, Hammer heads and some inverted flights. Of course this following Video shows the second (2nd) flight as the maiden was great as well it was recorded in just too low of light.

Oh, yes, the only reason that I changed out the Stock ESC was because it came with a Battery Connector that I just didn't have (Converter).

Okay, here is the Video:

If anyone is wondering.......................................

The model that I acquired (Paint Scheme) is from an actual Full Size Mustang that was Captured by the Luftwaffe and used as a Training Article for Luftwaffe pilots during training in actual aerial combat tactics.

Here is the historical account:
