After the great success with my recent 'Dead Calm150' creation, I started on slightly larger but hopefully lighter version, after learning few tricks from my first build this one should be a piece of cake, LOL.
My AUW target is 110 grams for outdoor flying in dead calm, 100 would be nice but even 120 will be a great result at the worst scenario. Only time will tell. Back to work!

My first build.

Delightful outdoor flier at 150 grams.

Started on the Depron cut out landing gear with CF legs/axis and Elevator stab.

Delicate cut out operation using sharpest knifes.

Cling Wrap application.

4 grams so far!

Lot more work than expected, taking hours just to sand with the finest sand paper the sharp cut out edges of 3mm Depron, to be handled like eggs, so far no breaks. LOL. The whole cut out frame is extremely flimsy, it will take a decent amount of carbon to stiffened it up after sticking it together.

Double fin rails will be next with touch of paint for a bit of contrast.

Layout of the profile fuse frame.

Gradual progress.

Check fit of my cut out fit slots.

Well, the bad news, I can forget about my target of 110 grams AUW, bit of wishful thinking!, The closer I'm getting to completion the heavier it becomes! It will be lighter than my "DC150", and hopefuly due to its larger frame size lot slower, but time will tell.

All controls new hooked up.

Ready for receiver.

Aprx. 10dm larger flying area should slow it down considerably.

Just about ready, little heavier than expected thanks to its size (86x100cm) and heavy duty hardware used with 6+ meters of CF to make it riggid. Haven't got the correct size prop to suit the tiny motor so in the mean time going to use some modified ones on hand.
This is the first ever model I'm using this inferior prop fit (prop saver), I don't trust it but will see how it goes.

Ail. linkage made up.

123 grams, no battery.

Finito, basta fiddly with the latest project, ready for action after few current windy days are over. 144 grams all up, lot heavier than my plan of 110, but build it larger than planed. 4 grams wing load compared to 5.5 g of "DC150" should make it slower -my target. After few test flight I decide if I will fit brakes to all controls and their size.
After short static runs with orange SF/GWS modified prop it was drawing too much current also bit of vibes I couldn't eliminate as none of my sleve collets at hand fitted perfectly with O-ring attachment.
Last minute I have decided to mod. another heavier 9x3.7 prop at 10 grams, cut down to ~ 8x3.5 with weight reduction to 6.5 grams and machining a miniscule alloy collet as a perfect addaptor between the motor and the prop. Nice and smooth vibes-free run at last!

The magic, the least I can say, even with not so efficient modifid prop after couple of test flights today in perfect dead calm after some crapy few windy days. Lot slower than my "DC150" as expected, might slow it dow further by adding Ail/El,Rudd. brakes on. Another success, just love it.

First incident, the whole fire wall mount plate snapped off from the foam frame while taking off the 3rd. evening flight last night. Lucky it happened still on the tarmac, could have been the end of the model if mid flight! Easy fix, also a warning to check my other 2 models.
Currently preparing new much lighter , slight smaller design, this time deffinitely at 100 grams!

Now well re-inforced, top and bottom.

Back in action today after minor improvement, couple of flights on tiny 2S/300N/Tech, next flight fitted in slightly heavier 2S/300Rino and the bloody thing wouldn't rotate after 3 goes! Bugger!.

Three more sessions this eve with the delicate one, breezier than I would like but still a fun, rather strange, yesty the model wouldn't rotate on 2S/300 Rino, today took off at ease! Another great news, the smaller lighter motor is in transit so my next project will be 100 grams as my new target!
